hello, I'm just curious to know what your times are on Ryan Heise's cube simulator, and how different they are to your actuall times. Mine are very far apart, since I have started today, but for those more experienced, is there much difference for you?

I'm much faster on heise sim, I only do 3x3 on it.

18-21 average as opposed to 19-23 average on real cube. I get many sub-15 solves on sim and maybe only once on real cube.

F2L is always sub-13 on sim (sub-10 is quite common) and may 1-2 seconds worse on real cube.

I could never get used to the control scheme. Cross on bottom kind of trips me up too (I guess I could solve cross on left, but that makes for even more awkward controls). My best solve on the cube simulator is only barely sub-30, I think.

Why? You use pretty much the same fingers as you would for the real cube. And you are such a fast typer! You should be able to sub-10. I can actually go faster tps/wpm on the simulator cube than the speed typing test. Only awkward keys are Lw, Rw, and rotations, and you can always change them on the new version.

I don't know, I guess I just haven't played with it enough. It may be pretty much the same fingers, but doing it on a keyboard just feels too different. I still have to think for a lot of moves (esp. cube rotations).

I remember when Phil Thomas refused to use RH and used only Gabbasoft and Isocubesim. I remember I was quite happy that I got a sub-20 solve and he still had a 27 on Isocubesim. Then, hi-games.net came out and he finally got into it and immediately got sub-20 solve in less than a week, and very soon top of the lists.
So it's not too difficult to learn.
