It arrived this morning, I put it together and set the tension and it feels really crap. although it cuts corners ok, it's not smooth at all, really loud and clunky, and my store bought is better. it seems to pop a lot too.

Did I just buy a crap cube or should I give it more time?

btw, I'm a new cuber, I didn't buy the cube to get faster times, I want cubes with different stickers, that's all.

I didn't even put stickers on mine. It's the worst thing I ever bought. I'll take the core, and use it for my wooden cube that I'm going to make =)

You just bought a crap cube.
I have an A(II) too ,, crappy... Try to sand the sides of the edges and see if it's working better.
Stickers = Homemade, or Cubesmith.

damn, ah well. I'll try sanding the sides and the imperfections, break it in and lube. the edges have raised ridges, I wanna be leaving them on right?

I also got some non slip stickers from c4u, but I might put them on my rubiks instead. next time I order, I'm gonna get another cube from c4u, and order some tiles and stickers from cubesmith. a lot of people say type D with type A core is good, should I order that next time?

The raised ridges, sand them a bit, i don't have tried it because i haven't so much time (true or false?)
D with A core is good, you could, or if you want to save a little money, E with A core is almost the same it works well.

cool thanks.

actually, are these ok? - http://www.puzl.co.uk/competition-s...-rubiks-cube-style-puzzles-by-puzl-p-212.html

they sell them separate here - http://www.puzl.co.uk/competition-s...be-rubiks-cube-style-puzzle-by-puzl-p-92.html

I'm gonna get a megaminx soon anyway, so the first one is not a bad deal.

Actually they're the same.(The 3x3 cube, only changes the Stickers)
And Wow, I want to buy that new megaminx, the old ones, suc*s... Click, click, click ....

ok, I sanded all the edge pieces and the ridges on the centre pieces. (I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment)

It's a bit better, but it still feels really cheap and crappy and like it's going to fall to pieces when I turn it (sometimes it does). also the corners twist sometimes. dunno if all DIYs are like this, but I don't like them like that. I still much prefer my store bought.

ive heard that the new batch of types D's are a different plastic, and are really crappy. so if you are going to get a D/A core combo, i would wait a while. in the meantime, an E/A core combo would probably suffice.

I got the ones with stickers. They are nice PVC stickers in correct american color scheme. It is very nice. But way better if you replace pieces with type C pieces. Core is black and very good without replacing it.

ok, update. after sanding the ridges down a bit and turning it about for a couple of days, I lubricated the pieces, reassembled and put stickers on it. It's a whole load better and I can tighten the screws more to reduce the popping and it still turns quite easily. I can also get faster average than my store cube now.

instead of getting that megaminx deal, I may get his eastsheen deal, a 2x2x2, 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 eastsheens for only £18.99, what do you think?

hello, i'm from hong kong and we have a cube union which are a bunch of cube enthusiasts. The Hong Kong national record holder of OH is using a type A II, and it's brilliant. Give it some time, and for the rails of the edges, he suggests that you use a file to file the edges of the rails. Hope that helps.

Hi, I've filed the ridges and lubed it and for me it's brilliant now. I don't have any other DIYs to compare to but it's now much better than my store bought.

also, I've recently ordered the 2, 4 and 5 set of white eastsheens from masterthecube. Can't wait for them to come.

oops.. i posted it on the wrong topic. anyway, it's good that u've done it, i hope someday i will do that to mine. now, sq-1 practicing is essential
