How do you turn faster?

Turn faster by practicing your algs over and over again. It won't make you faster though. Watch PLL videos to help you, like this one:

Look ahead.

Everytime I come on here for help everyone just spams "look ahead!" "bro look ahead bro!"

Don't just tell me to lookahead.. Feliks can do freaking Y Perms at 12 TPS!

Is there a website with a list of finger tricks for each algorithm? I feel like there is no point learning a good alg if I cant even use it correctly.

Lookahead is more important than TPS (or lookafoot (ODDER xd))

A 12 TPS Y-perm doesn't get you far. You need to slow down and look ahead

Also this:
LOOK AHEAD

Do an alg over and over. First turning slowly but while doing good finger tricks and slowly increase your turning speed. There are tutorials on youtube with people showing what they do watch some of them find a good turning style that suits you.

For PLL recognition I'm taking note of small details/patterns of each PLL since I'm color neutral.

Edit:Oh thanks for the tip. I lock up a lot taking up some time. I think I'm gonna copy felik's turning style :)

Feliks' PLLs

And this is good too.

But you need to understand that TPS isn't everything. Except the last layer, then yes, as high as possible preferably. But the whole point of turning slower during F2L is to plan what you're going to do next, remove pauses and ultimately be faster because of this.

Edit: Ninja'd by a few people

Watch sneaklyfox's slow turning average (or any of the other similar videos on youtube), she easily averages sub-20 while turning fairly slow. Unless you're getting to that world class speed, then 12 TPS Y-perms don't matter all that much. How much time is saved in a world class Y-perm versus an average Y-perm? Half a second? A second? bro look ahead bro is good advice, not spam.

You can say lookahead is everything all you want; TPS is still important. I can't believe I still can't do better than about 13 seconds with the 100-move challenge. And I'm pretty good at piano and keyboards, so it's not like I have finger speed problems. I'm sure that with really good lookahead I could get sub-15, but I'll probably be stuck there if I can't get faster TPS than I have now. But I'd like to think it's still just practice that's holding me back on TPS.

Jorghi, I saw somewhere you were averaging 70 moves per solve. That is pretty bad; I've averaged under 60 moves per solve for years now. But my average is a little slower than yours - I average 21 seconds now. How fast are you at the 100-move challenge?

Edit: I just got a 12.26 on the 100-move challenge. Still slow compared to most people, but an improvement.

The most important tps is overall tps for the solve, and lookahead is a factor in that. My average is ~35. F2L (pairs only) takes me ~17 and PLL execution ~3.7. My PLLs average 12.9 moves so that's about 3.5tps. That's my peak tps during a solve so that's what my fingers are capable of right now. My F2L (pairs only) is typically 30-33 moves which at 3.5tps would take me ~9 seconds. Ergo, during pairs I waste about 8 seconds on pauses, hesitations, searching, fumbling or whatever (and that's not to mention cross). Even accepting that F2L will always have a lower tps than algs just spewed out from muscle memory, it's certainly not my finger speed holding back my tps. There's a good 4-5 seconds to win there just by improving lookahead, and to gain that much through improving LL speed I'd need to at least double my tps.

I got 12.17 TPS on the T perm (1.15 second execution)!!!! I could literally feel myself improving too.

keep calm and relaxed. if you tense up your muscles and freak out and try to turn at 9000+ tps you will get an explosion. start out turning slow and accurately, then slowly increase your tps while trying to maintain the accuracy until turning super fast comes naturally.

This might sound weird, but I always get fast F2Ls when I adjust the TPS based on whether I recognize the f2l cases easily. And once I get to the last 2 pairs recognizing/finding the f2l pairs is easier so I turn a lot faster. When I go slow and look ahead I get slower times.

Then you don't go slow enough. You should be able to solve without any pauses at all

If you're talking about tps during f2l, the answer is "lookahead". You can't move faster than your eyes allow you to track the pieces.

If you're talking about tps on algs, the answer is just "practice". Find algs that work with your finger tricks. Practice them slowly, paying attention to when you need regrips, and try to eliminate any pauses. Then speed it up, and try to maintain the same mechanics you had while practicing slowly.
