Recently I stopped cubing for a couple months due to many reasons. (mostly because I got an Xbox 360 and a Minecraft account) Last week my brother left his Zanchi in our car and I thought it would be funny to see how bad I am. i scrambled it and looked at the clock so I would start right on the minute. I solved it in under 30 seconds! (keep in mind, I used to average 45 seconds and my PB was 26 seconds.) it was so crazy! now I've gotten back into cubing and i average 40 seconds. It's weird! have anyone else done that before? tell me in le comment section.

When i take breaks usually i get rusty, but after the rustiness is over i get better.
For example, i took about a week break because i was bored of it, then i came back and did some bad solves. but after about 150 i broke my PB single 3 times, plus my ao5, ao12, ao50, ao100, and mo3.

they say if you take a break from something for a while then it clears up your mind and you can be more focused on it. it's like athletes taking a vacation.
plus you forget some things that might have held you back, and you only remember the important things.
i went full power roux for 2 months and abandoned CFOP cause i stopped improving, then when i went back i started improving again. that's not exactly the same thing but it's similar.

Happened to me a lot. Still don't know how.
Maybe after you get back to cubing, you turn the cube slower and more carefully, which means less number of pauses, which means better times.

Short breaks actually help you to assimilate and to improve...
Then, after a week, for example, when you start to solve, your fingertricks are not so good, so the only way you can be fast is to lookahead. Since you only have this "tool", your lookahead is actually better because you focus on it, and when your fingertricks are back, your speed has improved.
Well it's happened to me three times, i stopped for exactly a week and then after a day my times dropped by one second, and the last time was from when i averaged in the low 20s

I had to stop cubing seriously (I still did solves periodically) for a few weeks to study for APs

In the two days after my test I improved more than I have in 8 months (my PB average of 100 went from 13.65 to 12.90 :D)

I had stop cubing for 1 month , Then i come back to practice again for Thailand Championship 2013 . I am now sub 14 O_o (My average before taking a break was 18 seconds)

I once had to quit cubing for 4 months when I averaged ~16,after coming back I was sub15 in no time.
At present I average 11-13s and I don't think quitting will help me improve now,now its a lot about dedicated practice and drilling LL algs till they are sub1.

If I stop 3x3 and go into megaminx for a bit, should that help my 3x3 times when I go back?

it can, i stopped doing 3x3 as much for a few days and went to megaminx and i learnt a few good tricks from it and it made me faster, aslo your f2l should improve as there's so much of it :p

yeah, im not going to quit again. now im gonna sell all my old cubes that i don't use or need so i can buy other cubes and/or save up for a laptop
