Why gimmicky solve videos are a bad idea...

In a parallel universe you're filming yourself solving a cube while doing headspins and posting it on the internet.

99.9% of the people who make gimmicky solve video's...

If you don't do it for the attention why record it and put it on the interweb?

My original position does not change and I was also referring to people who make gimmicky solve videos. Say I went parachuting and did a solve while hanging in mid-air. I might record it in the first place because it's not something that happens everyday and it's cool and different and like a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing. Even for myself, I would record it and watch it again later because it's neat. So if I post it, maybe it's because I think other people would find it neat too. This is one of many different reasons that do not have an attention-seeker's mindset.

I once had a teacher who could write in cursive with his left hand and print with his right hand and meet in the middle to complete a sentence. It would be cool, but he ruined the art of penmanship.

I once had a neighbour who could, while blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back, flip a dozen burgers on the grill so quickly that the last one would still be in the air before the first one had landed. It would be cool, but he ruined the art of BBQing.

I had a friend who could swallow water and inhale at the same time. It was a really cool skill, but she ruined the art of breathing.

My car keys can't lock threads. wot.

Hey whats up with all the jackass kids on SS now?
This place sucks. You all ruined it. A little piece of heaven here and now its gone.
OT: I do hate the gimmick solves, only because I want to see the actual solve and focus on the method used. I give no **** if you juggle one while playing piano. Thats just an unnecessary distraction.

Excuse me? I hate to tell you what you're coming across as now...

Not only are you describing the people who disagree with you with a hateful term, but you're also saying "you should not have this particular type of fun, just because I do not enjoy taking part in it."

I don't like sighted 3x3 solving. I see very little value in it. I'm not going to make a thread telling people that they cannot do this.

EDIT: if you're referring to the little joke people are having, then I don't think that kind of thing is anything new. Seems like a less funny version of "or you could just use Petrus" or "I can't come but you should have..." Maybe you didn't like those either, but they happened a while ago and are considered pretty funny, so I don't see it as some horrible sign the forums are getting worse. I guess it's because they are belittling a point that you agree with...?

I used to know a guy who could eat burning hot food that had literally just come from the microwave, he could make a video but it would ruin the ancient art of microwaving.

You guys are too funny... starting with the speedstacks comment. I'm sorry if I truly offended anybody. I'm just a whiner.

I don't know about other people who are posting, but I wasn't offended at all. You're entitled to your own opinion. So you don't like gimmicky solves. Other people do and others have fun making them. For those who don't like gimmicky solves but want to watch the solve for itself, simply don't watch the gimmicky solves. As for the "I knew a so-and-so and they could do such-and-such... but it would ruin the art of blahblahblah..." I thought that was just an amusing thing.

Butthurt "purists" gonna hate.

I see unique solves as a plus. It's creative and interesting to see what people are doing; why not add variety to the forum. Not only that but more exposure to speedcubing in general.

I have respect for someone who can juggle and solve a cube at the same time regardless of how "gimmicky" it is.

I see it from the other side... Does this forum really need ANOTHER video of somebody solving a 3X3 in 13.29 seconds?

This. I see where you're coming from, OP, it's getting a bit ridiculous, but I don't really mind. If people want to show off their ability to multitask why shouldn't they? We are all united here by our mutual love for cubing, some bronies, and they have every right to share stuff like these with the community. If it really bothers you that much you can always avert them when scrolling through the forums. I do that with Womack's posts anyway.

I once knew the only guy in the world who could dunk a basketball and solve a Rubik's cube, he could have filmed a video of him doing both but his Aunty and Uncle got scared and moved him to a town called Bellair.
