Hello everyone! My name is Tom and I am very new to speed cubing. I learned how to solve a Rubik's cube a long time ago, but the past couple of weeks I have been learning the Fridrich method to try to improve my times. Currently, I average about 1 min and am hoping to learn from those who are faster. I am currently still using a Rubik's brand so if anyone has any recommendations for a better cube to get, it would be very helpful too. Thanks everyone!

Welcome! I was in the same situation, what they recommend here is to get a Dayan Zhanchi cube.

Welcome! You could go with a dayan guhong v2 or a zhanchi, but it might be a little uncontrollable, so you could get a witlong or wityou.

Hello Tom,
My name is Chris and i like Square-1's and motorcycles.

EDIT: <-- That is a Meep. Know the Meep. Love the Meep. Respect the Meep.

Square-1's are awesome indeed.

Thanks guys! I think I am probably going to get a Guhong v2. I have looked at reviews of it and it looks really good. Definitely going to be faster than my Rubik's.

Welcome, Tom.

For the 3x3x3, I would strongly recomment Dayan 5 Zhanchi, which was the cube used by Feliks Zemdegs in his 5.56 sec World Record Solve.
Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v_Km6cv6DU

Its perfect cube, turns VERY smooth, cuts corners easily .... After you get that cube, that its time to start learning the various moves / solve methods,
eg CFOP, ZZ, Roux, etc etc.... Of course for a start, no one would expect you to do under 15 sec. It maybe 2 mins, it may be 1 min, and slowly with patience
and time and practice, your solve time would start to get faster....

Take part in competitions.... WCA (World Cube Associations) organize competitions around the world where competitors go there not just to compete, but to meet
fellow cubers, exchange ideas, chat etc etc...

Hope this helps...
Which country you from ?

Thanks! The Zhanchi was another cube I was looking at but still haven't decided between it and the Guhong v2. I think I would like the Guhong better because I think I would like the smooth turning that people have said the Guhong has as opposed to the clicky turning of the Zhanchi. Currently I am learning CFOP and am averaging about 1 min. I do 2 look OLL and PLL and am practicing my F2L but I still need a lot of work on it.

P.S. I am from the U.S.

Thats great. Do test out different cubes brands and use the one that "suits" you most !
I saw in another thread that you can memorize whole cube and do it Blindfold ? Wow, I thought you just started cubing ?

I've been speed cubing for about a month (have been able to solve it for a year) and I cant quite solve it blind. I saw something about blind solving so i wanted to learn it. I am working on memorizing it and can almost do whole thing. Right now I can memorize all the edges or corners but not both at the same time. Hopefully I will finish my first actual blind solve soon! :)

Hi Tom I'm new here too but have cubed a lot. Personally I would say if you are just coming from a rubiks brand get like a type f or type c etc. Something that's not as fast as a dayan but really good. And then work your way up or you can get both and practice on one and when your good go to the dayan. Just a thought.

Welcome dude :) Don't listen to people telling you not to buy a zhanchi or a guhong. When I started, I bought a F-II and ruined it with wd 40. Then I got a type A diy that popped ALL THE TIME, I tried tightening it, whiping some of the lube off the cube and it didn't work either.
That's when I decided to buy a zhanchi (mine is a lubix one) and it's the best cube I have, so I really recommend you get either a zhanchi or a guhong v2 (if you prefer smoothness over speed)

That's it, welcome once again and if you have any questions pm me :)
