You should not completely stop ortega (i did it, and i regret it). I stopped Ortega for LBL just so I could perform the CLLs i know (about 7/40) Recently i tried ortega again, and my averages switched from being anywhere between 4-8,5 seconds (mostly >6), do a consistent 5,5-6,5 seconds. I still do a layer if i can, but i use ortega if a full layer isn't easily buildable

That means i use ortega, unless i can build a layer easily. If i can, i use CLL if i know the case, otherwise it's OLL+PLL (LBL method)

in my personal opinion only the permutation of VOP is actually worth it. I tried using it as my main for a while but found not much worth in making a V and orienting because as layer is just a quick (with "nub" CLL)
