I just don't understand how this can be true. They feel wayyy different. They're not even the same cube. Even the 55mm feels different from the rest. There is definitely something he isn't saying. There is a major difference between my 2 old original ones, and the rest of them. When I bought my second ZC, I could tell immediately that it felt different. The rest of them have felt the same as the second one. Then, I bought another old one that was not used, and it felt like my old one did when it was new. It feels thinner and less sturdy, much faster, and much smoother. I don't know man.

Or maybe it's just placebo. Every cube is going to feel a little different. Dayan himself said that the plastic didn't change, what exactly does he have to gain by lying about this?

The 55mm is a different Zhanchi where the pieces fit together much better. I find that the more a cube clicks the pieces aren't entirely together. Or the core (or screws) are crooked and there isn't an equally distributed tension on all 6 sides.

Soooo... I highly recommend getting a 55mm zhanchi b/c they're so awesome ;). Get it DIY and really make sure the edges and corners are pressed together firmly. etc. etc.

Back to the plastic... From what I have observed, the plastic ages... for example: White plastic starts to turn grey (much like an old Game Boy or NES) but not too much. The black LingYun II plastic SUCKS!!! But I have boiled the DIY pieces for a few minutes, dried them, and froze them for a few more minutes. The plastic will shrink just enough to fully press the pieces together. I'm not implying that this works every time, I've only done it once just for giggles. Also, depending on what lube people like to use (lubix, izo, silicube, w/e) if you let it sit long enough it will change in quality. Another scary fact is when you peel stickers off a dayan 3x3 when the plastic is warmer than room temperature the stickers will peel up little plastic fibers (no big deal though).

Okay I'm back and I did my homework (my wife did most of it, obviously b/c chinese).

The Guhong I is the only Dayan 3x3 that has made any real changes... NOT the Lingyun, Lunhui, or Zhanchi... here's an image link of the conversation my wife had with Mr. Dayan:

I hope this cleared up the rumor.
thanks for clearing up this misconception. I hope your efforts will get out to many people.

It's not quite over yet ;) There's actually more to this subject than I thought. It is yet a mystery about what every Dayan 3x3 is made of. Question is what are the percentages of different types of plastics that have been added in the molds? It seems to change along with newer copied molds. It is true now that there are these great feeling cubes. I still continue to stress about the necessity of seeking these (more expensive) cubes when solving times aren't going to be that different. I think people need to focus on practice and method building.

Either way I've learned a few things that I probably wouldn't have if I wasn't skeptical.

Yes, of course I'll be practicing my methods and all, but I actually prefer smooth cubes, like my 50 mm zhanchi. I had actually heard about the "old plastic" zhanchi before CBC's video, modcuber had a couple videos up, and I was pretty interested. Now only if I could find an old plastic guhong... that'd be awesome...

Maybe you can try asking modcuber? It seems like this cube is very rare and only a handful of people have them.

Oh, my friend has a black old Guhong (he found it laying around at a competition and nobody claimed it). To be completely honest, I don't feel much difference between his old Guhong and my Guhong V2 without torpedos. It's nothing special, they just have cool looking screws.

I bought an elite in December of 2010, and I believe it's an old guhong being as it has the black screws. It's a really nice cube, but compared to the new elites, I don't feel much difference.

I`m sooo confused,I thought the Zhanchi and the Guhong were made with PVC plastic and it was originally made with ABS. Everybody is saying there looking for both of these cubes with ABS plastic, I understand that you talked with Mr.Bao but it still doesnt make sense to me.

They are not made with PVC. It's ABS + PC. Totally different. It's just a mixture of two plastics to make it sturdier, and both the Gu Hong and Zhan Chi have changed to this. People say it never changed, blah blah, but the proof is in my hands. I have 3 old ones. Two blacks and a white, and they are much more incredible than any of my new ones that are definitely and clearly, a different plastic. The old ones are much lighter and smoother, and even faster. I don't care what the hell Bao said. If you have a Ling Yun v1 and v2, the difference is between these two as well. The v1 is made from the "old" plastic, and the v2 is the "new" stuff. That is the same difference between the old and new ZCs.
And to the guy above me, the way you know the difference between the old and new Gu Hongs are:
The plastic feels different / smoother
The old ones have black screws and a cloudy colored core (although the plastic changed slightly before the hardware did so SOME new ones have the old hardware)
The old centers have shorter cylinders inside them than the new ones (the cylinders that hold the screws)
And, the old center caps have longer tabs on them.

Just to point something out here. The plastic wasn't changed by Bao, The factory started using different plastic mixes to cut down on manufacturing costs. He only found out about it when these discussions came about, because he did some asking around because of it. Also, the plastics aren't exactly split between old and new, it actually just varies over time depending on the mix the factory was using. Although the original batches would have been the first mix, It's possible that the good mix has come around again a few times since then, so It's not necessarily as easy as getting an 'original' Zhanchi.
