My first Speed Cube!!!

you don't need a diy.

I hope this has been pointed out enough for him to understand.

Get a DIY if you want, but please, PLEASE, don't say you "need" one to get better times. Hell, Nakajima won the World Championship 2007 using a STOREBOUGHT Rubik's cube. So you don't need one, you would LIKE to have one.

To be honest, I think that if you would have wrote "I'd like to get a DIY, which one should I buy?" instead of "zomfg i ned a diy 2 get beter timez!!" then this thread would kinda have more helpful answers instead of a debate wheter you NEED a DIY or not.

Amazing how 1 word can change a whole conversation, eh?

Oh by the way, I know that I probably made some grammatical errors and such in this post, but English isn't my native language ;)

A well assembled DIY can improve your times significantly. Brief comparison:
Store Bought Rubiks Cube 2005 << 8 tps average
Type A DIY, D core, Rubiks Springs << 11 tps average

The DIY turned so smoothly that I was getting sore index fingers accounting for the lack of friction. I gave it away though (to a newbie):-P

To each their own.

Tim.

Significantly? LOL:D

It all depends on how you treat your cube.

A storebought is usually bad when it's brand new.

A DIY that is a good type is good when it's brand new.

But if you break in the store bought a lot, it can be an amazing cube.

ive been using my store bought for a while and i sanded it it still turns very bad. Enjoi skater let me use hes icon wich is the best cube i ever used so i got super fast with my finger tricks but it takes me about 3:30 to solve becuse the dark colors mess me up >.<. Also i dont want to use my cube becuse i dont want to make any bad habits. i never said i needed a DIY i just want one becuse its better then what i have! ive been saving up to get one for a few weeks (2-3 weeks i mowed the lawn :D ). but i can solve about sub 2min. or 1:51 if im lucky on Enjoi's cube. on my cube i get about 2:20

I bought a New type Black DIYKit 3x3x3 tihrd model (a)
on cube for you and the stickers from Cube smith now is this a good speed cube? http://www.cube4you.com/142_New-type-Black-DIYKit-3x3x3-tihrd-model--(a).html

My best time on my first 3x3 cube i got from rubiks (non diy not eve rated) i can solve in about 3min. so i need a better cube to speed cube with, so i was just wondering if i made the right chocie in my first DIY (a)? any way thanks for the help!!

You did say you need a new cube.

And storebought's quality is random, you sometimes gotta buy 2-3 to get at one that can become good. (As for me, the first one I bought was awesome after a month.)

Well, I think everyone will agree that CRC silicone lube is one of the best lube available. Should be available at any Wal-Mart.

Thanks Sam! im going to get some today mabye it will help my cube out... any way on cube for you it said my cube is paid for and shiped, is there any way to track it? i orderd the $6 shiping method.

Cool! my new type diy came in yesterday and it took about 5 hours to put the tabs in and put it together, and i finished it up today! and all i have to say is WOW i havent sanded it or lubed it ( i plan on lubbing in a week so i break it in) and i just tap it, it does a 180 when i fully push it (with my pinky) it goes almost 360!!!!!! it never pops even when i try too, but the little tabs pop off i think im going to super glue them. its my first DIY ever! (got it off of cube for you) i bought it on the 20th so it was about 2 weeks to ship it for only 6 bucks. Its very loud because the tabs, "crispy" is the word for it right? but any way i love every thing about it !! Thanks to every one for the help!

I don't think a DIY is necessary at all. I've been flirting with sub-30 and I have a storebought, its actually much better than my DIY which is, honestly, a POS. I'm not anywhere near as fast as I can be with that cube anyway.

Storeboughts are better than DIY's for their smooth, unpoppable abilities.

In Brussels, in the first round I broke my best average in competition by 5 seconds, and it was only after the last solve that I found out that I had mistakenly put my storebought instead of my DIY on the scoresheet :D

How long have you been cubing? My friend has been cubing for 1 week and she has a 1:40 average using Dan Brown's method.

NOTE: I hate his method.

why do people call the method he teaches the dan brown method? i knew that method before he made that video and my uncle knew that method before dan brown could talk(or pretty close 1980)

also why do people say you shouldn't get a diy if you get bad times? diys arnt expensive they are pretty cheap.i mean i've had my DIY since BEFORE I could solve it.
