Most DIYs are awesome, but personally I wouldn't recommend a new Type A as a main cube. It locks up quite a lot. But still, if you break it in and get used to how it turns (the little tabs on the edge pieces lock up the cube quite a lot) it feels pretty darn nice. Also, it's very light.
If you think your cube is giving you problems (locking up), I highly recommend to get an old type A or a type D (preferably with a Type A core). But don't rush to get one now! Learn some finger tricks, and train your reaction times. Using your fingers to turn is WAY, WAY, faster than using your wrists. Wait until your times are around 40s, then think about getting a new cube.
Oh, have you lubed your cube? Use silicone spray if you haven't. Nothing else.
I wouldn't consider myself a professional speedcuber, but I hope my tips help.
