[Unofficial] Shotaro "Macky" Makisumi Solves Rubik's Cube While Juggling

Has anyone tried to do that with 3 balls in one hand?

I think that's rather unlikely. There aren't that many people in the world who can run 3 balls in one hand for a long time, and I doubt many of them can solve a cube (although perhaps one or two can). And furthermore, it's a lot harder to juggle while solving a cube than it is when not solving a cube. :)

It would probably take at least a minute, and there are only 14 people in the IJDB who have juggled 3 in one hand for over a minute:

I tried once (with two balls, not three). Took me over 3 minutes, with a lot of drops. It's really hard to look at both the balls and the cube at the same time.

The apples were a bit too big, if he was juggling with regular sized objects, he'd be able to do it perfectly. There are a few videos on youtube.

I don't find it that much harder. At first it's hard to turn a cube in one hand while juggling, but after about 10 solves that's not a problem anymore. The only skill you really need is to juggle two balls blindfolded for a short period of time (and to juggle them long enough of course).

btw. I wonder why there are just 14 people who submitted a time over one minute. For me as a beginner it doesn't look too difficult. Anyway, it's time to practice it ;).

Truthfully, there are certainly many more than 14 people who can do it. There are about 30 people in the database who have juggled 6 balls for over a minute, and anyone who can do that can certainly do 3 in one hand. There are probably quite a few more. But still, it is an uncommon skill to be able to juggle 3 in one hand for over a minute.

Accuracy for 2 in one hand blind isn't so tough, but accuracy for 3 in one hand blind is pretty tough. I'm sure it would take me years of practice if I wanted to be able to do it.

I think theres a video of david calvo vivas doing this... i cant find it right now, maybe later. cool video macky.

What's the difference to this? The demo applet makes them look the same to me:
http://www.jugglingdb.com/records/record.php?trick=67
The applet can't handle the difference. The cascade pattern means you throw them like you would an ordinary 2-handed cascade juggle, with the balls thrown alternately from the left and from the right. Most people (including me) find it harder than the fountain, but a few find the one-handed cascade easier - it depends on the juggler.
That Ravi Fernando there, is that the cuber?
I'd like to know that too - there are quite a few people who both juggle and cube - maybe it is! In any event, that Ravi Fernando is pretty good:

Just to revive this thread, here's a video of my cube-juggling act in a recent talent show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_uJdnZ86Eg. (tl;dw: solved cube 1 while juggling cubes 2 and 3; solved cube 2 while juggling cubes 1 and 3; solved cube 3 while juggling all of them together. The last cube took almost five minutes, partly because I did two OLLs and misaligned several times on PLL.) The natural extension of this, of course, is solving three cubes, each while juggling all three--I've managed to do this only three or four times, most recently in a personal best of around 10:20. Maybe next time I'll get it on video and on Stackmat.

Yes, that IJDb page is me. (Mike, am I correct to assume that http://www.jugglingdb.com/records/member.php?user=993 is you?) In answer to Tim's question, I have attempted to solve a cube while juggling three balls in the other hand, but I've never gotten past the cross. (Juggling two clubs is a bit more doable, and of course two balls or rings is much easier.) I think three balls is within reach though. And if you don't require that the juggling must be done in only one hand, then I have in fact solved a cube (with my feet) while juggling three balls... maybe four years ago, in nineteen and a half minutes.

Just a few days ago, I was fairly shocked to see that Mike Hughey had solved a cube BLD while juggling, all the way back in 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWGXV40cu1s. I wonder what the limits of this compound "cube-juggling" sport are.

wow. I should try this seriously again then.

I find two clubs only a bit more difficult than two balls and much safer than two cubes. I also think three balls is possible for someone who works much more on balls.

Solving (one-handed, if you'd like) while balancing a club is pretty easy for me now. Adding two clubs (easier than clubs while balancing) in the other hand is one possibility.

was that solve prepared?

Yes, Ravi, that IJDb page is me. I wish I were even remotely as good as you at juggling, but at least I enjoy it. All I've done lately is work on 4 clubs; at least I've gotten fairly solid with that lately. Now I'm trying to start working on 5 clubs, but it's really outrageously hard - I haven't even managed a single bad flash yet.

Ravi, your trick is amazing! I've never seen anyone else solve a cube while performing a regular cascade with 3 objects. They always resort to some trick pattern so they have extra time to make a turn. Your trick is really impressive!

My solve was definitely not prepared - why would I have spent so long memorizing it if it were? If I recall correctly, I had something like six tries before I got a success. I think 4 of the failures happened during memo - I kept dropping. So each time I just applied a different scramble and tried again. Back then I fairly regularly had been practicing OH BLD, and since I could probably run 4 balls for an hour, I knew it shouldn't be hard for me to pull the behind-the-back-while-juggling trick off. Someone on the forum here joked that someone should do it, so I promptly went home and made the video. :)
