Hey guys
I just learned how to solve the cube and am turning to speedcubing (introduced by a friend).

I was doing some research for the past few weeks, but i still dont know what cube and lubricant to get.
I am thinking of getting a white zhanchi (look below) and some lubix 2cc.

zhanchi:

I am learning F2L, OLL, and PLL, but would like some tips
Thanks guys

Gay hey hey!

You don't need to get the most expensive lube on the market for cubes if your just starting. You could just get some 50,000 WT shock oil which I use for all my cubes except my main 3x3.

For tips you should ask questions but something you should do from the start is look ahead during your solve no matter what level your at.

Also tell us something about you. Make yourself stand out. To me and to most people you will just be a random username so why dont you tell us general things about you like what music you like, instrumentation you play, and sports you do. Also upload an avatar.

Hello! Welcome!
amazon is probably not the cheapest place to get a zhanchi, check out the puzzle shop sub forum for other cube shops, or just use the search function.

Tips? Practice, mostly. What times do you get right now?

Oh, and as for lubix, it's really not necessary right now. Shock oil, differential oil, all works almost as well, and are much cheaper.

Right now, I personally don't think you need a ZhanChi. You just need something to get you off of your Rubik's brand storebought, assuming you're using it. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives that are also fast, like the Ghost Hand cubes, a lot of the Alpha (GuoJia) cubes, and the F-II. These are all available for purchase at Lightake.com and other assorted cube shops.

Okay,
People say i have 4 major obsessions:
Star Wars
Naruto
Swimming
My girlfriend

But i hope to add speedcubing to the list

i might get a ghosthand...
or both
thoughts?

I would get a Zhanchi, and tighten the tensions a little (about half a turn or so), and then when you get faster, you can loosen them again. I switched when I was around 40-50 seconds from a storebought to a Zhanchi.

Really?
That's really cool
I get about a minute to a minute twenty normally
I have gotten sub60 a few times

YJ cubes are one of my favorite beginner/intermediate cubes.

It's cheap, good corner cutting, amazing feel, and unique sound.

Ghost Hands are good too, though.

I don't understand why people say don't get a zanchi yet. You should always learn as you need to go on. On a cheaper cube you will pick up bad habits and have to relearn how to do it when you do get one.

I want to say it's something psychological. I don't think it would hurt to get a ZhanChi right away, but I feel like there would be more satisfaction in using it after going through cubes that aren't as good.

I personally get pretty happy upgrading from one cube to a better one. It's more rewarding when you upgrade. You also don't reap all the benefits of a cube if you haven't experienced different feels or styles.

Also, what bad habits arise from using a Ghost Hand? If anything a ZhanChi will create bad habits since the corner cutting and such is so generous. If I started with a ZhanChi, I would hate solving 6x6 right now.

Edit: If you're keen on buying from Amazon, here's a link to the YJ: http://www.amazon.com/Type-YongJun-YJ-Speed-VVGOO-II/dp/B0046DP2AA

Lol
Thanks
Are there any differences between the yj and the ghost hand?
If so, what are they?
Should i buy it from somewhere else?

There are plenty of differences, most of which won't make a difference in your times. It really is just personal preference. Both are good cubes.

I like buying off of Amazon :D But there are plenty of other stores that sell these cubes.

Have you tried a white cube before? When I first got a white cube I hated it, I found colour recognition really difficult and ideally need a different colour scheme. Although one of my main cubes is white and i still achieve the same times, I have just purchased another black cube to replace it as I really don't like them.

whatever cube you get, just make sure you play around with it alot and get used to it and understand how it moves, it'll only be as good if you use it well, some have more potential for better movements but in the end it's up to the cuber to be used to the cube they use (use use use use use)

One good habit you should get is colour neutrality. Since you are just beginning to solve the cube fast, you can try solving the crosses on different colour and get used to it. =D

Welcome to the forums, I'll chip in and say a ZhanChi will be a great choice, you'll probably not need another cube for a long time, also like Alvin said, if you can try being colour neutral it may be useful, lots of people have tried switching later on, and found it really difficult.
