Could some one kindly suggest an optimized strategy for solving the 12 edges only?

I tried these:

* cross, 3 middle layer edges, 3 top edges, last 2 edges (key hole)
* ZZ's eo, cross, middle edges, permute top layer 4 edges
* middle edges, DL+DR, then borrow Roux method L6E

I didn't do well with last one, since I simply lost the clue during the process(easy to orient, but hard to finish in normal way without the corner pieces on position...)

any help please?.

E slice, then separate and permute.

Kinda like belt method. You can do EO first if you like but you'd only be restricting yourself.

Thanks for help!

... but U/D edges may mixed together in each layer right? how to separate them? (except I should read the steps as: E slice while spliting the U and D edges...)

Yes, I meant separation, it skipped my mind, I edited my post straight after. However sometimes it's faster not to.
I think it's best not to stick to a straight strategy. Like you may prefer to solve D edges at the same time as E slice, as Kirjava said, as you can finish with straight ELL. Depends on what you see in the scramble.

Yes. looks anything before LL is best handled by brain rather than algs... :) thanks again.

since it's about 2 turns per edge, am I safe to predict that most cubers here could do it (12 edges, ~24 turns) in 5 secs?

Not sure about your movecount, but I'm sure most will find sub6 edges fairly easy.

hah. 6 edges -> LSE would also be pretty good. didn't think of that.

ya, I guess so. However, like i said before, some how I kept lost in the middle. I guess it's caused by placing the "UL+UR" pair... just don't know how to get them right without the corners' help... it tends to end up in weired cases for the M slice...

Without the corners it should be easier; then they just have to be across from each other(and a U/U' turn to match the side colors) before L6E

you're just not used to the extra freedom

that's right I think... :)

will pay more attention when do the UL+UR turns... it feels not like "recognize the case" afterwards, but rather "make the case" for the M slice now...

Yes, the DL+DR is quite simple. But I got troubled later with UL+UR. like 5BLD said, sometimes even a freedom brings confusion... :)
