Hey guys,

My first post on the forum, and I've recently become interested in speedcubing.
Got a Dayan ZhanChi at the moment but after looking at some youtube videos, i've seen a few videos of curved cubes.
1) Are they allowed in comps?
2) Which do you prefer?

Sam.

I assume by curved you mean pillowed. Pillowed 7x7s are allowed because they are the only widely available model of 7x7. Any other pillowed cube is illegal because it allows you to see more stickers than a cubic puzzle does. That's why pillowed 2x2s, 3x3s, 6x6s, ect, ect, are illegal.

Oh and I prefer cubic. I don't understand why anybody would like a pillowed cube if a cubic model was available.

The only reason to ever buy a pillowed cube is for collection; cubic versions are almost universally better to solve with (in terms of holding the cube and its actual performance), and with the exception of the v-cube 7, pillowed cubes are illegal in competitions.

I tried a pillowed 3x3 a while ago and didn't like it. Not terrible, but I prefer the cubic cubes (lol). Haven't tried a big cube (6x6, 7x7) yet, so I can't tell anything about those.

1) They aren't competiton legal.
2) I haven't tried a pillowed cube, but my Zhanchi is amazing. I haven't even completely broke it in.

I prefer straight cubes, but I like how the V-7 fits in my hands while solving, it makes the layers more acessible than a cubic 7x7 ( I imagine) So I was for >6x6 should be pillowed. Also, pillowed bigcubes are more proportional :3
