Did you see anything special in that solve that made you go for that particular 10 move cross? Or was it just a complete fail cross that lucked into a phenomenal solve?

I can't help asking, because it's obvious from your times that you're miles better than me at 3x3x3, and I'm wondering if there was something special you saw to make that particular cross look attractive. I only ever do a 10-move cross if I do it wrong, but I figure there are bound to be cases where experts would do a 10-move cross because they'd see it sets something else up better. The problem is that in the case of this solve, I have no idea how you saw something special coming from that cross, so if you did, I'd love to learn from it.

ummm yea I've got to admit... it was completely random... I don't have the expert knowledge of cross so I do the most basic moves to get my cross and pick up turning speed from there. I'm getting to the point where I'm fully color neutral and because I saw that the blue cross (I'm more used to it) would go in a flow, I just picked it

Well, to be fair Andrew, because the last pair was 3 moves, Ben had probably started to see the LL blocks forming before he (R U' R')'d, so he could have been somewhat expecting at least an OLL skip.

When did I say anything about his reaction? :fp

I meant that he recognized the LL skip like it was a PLL AUF, and he expected to get it.



@Julian I suppose, but he didn't have any sort of hesitation. He just threw the cube down right after he finished the last pair.

Maybe he was expecting because as Julian said, he probably could've at least been expecting an OLL skip. Maybe he was AUFing into what he thought the PLL would be?
