These forums are degrading

and then we get clan wars where members of a clan give each other high ratings and others low ratings regardless of post quality

I think the chances and possible cons of this are not outweighed by the poor thread quality issue. Plus the mods could look at forums that were being considered bad before they deleted them and see if "clans" were just doing this. I know this seems obvious, but if we did something like this, each person should only get one vote.

This works in theory but would cause waaaaay to much drama if implemented.

True, but it would at least limit the amount of repetitive threads that come up.

So youd rather 50 giumond type posts over a repetitive thread? and how does this solve anything?

Yeah, I've noticed recently that a significant amount of new threads are dumb, repeats (e.g. what's the best ___ cube), or speculation threads. I hope the moderators do take into consideration how they could minimize this. Banning, restrictions on posting, etc. But it will take a lot of work to clear out all the junk that's accumulated without making it worse. Best of skill.

There is another forum I visit with lots of spammers, but luckily there is a 400+ posts section for older members and it's like heaven. Spammers get their posts deleted and it comes with a forum ban. Would it be hard to introduce something like that here?

P.S. I know I'm no where near that many posts. I'm always just a lurker.

that isnt necessarily my point, why put a post requirement when you could make it so certain users are allowed to post decided by mods, and have threads that a new person wants to start needs to be approved.

Again, this would be unfair, the system should be uniform for everyone. Also, as I said earlier, those who spam threads to get their 40 will be banned, quite simple.
Those who have questions, but can't post threads can simply use one of the many help and how to threads created for that exact purpose.

Why not send a PM to every new member informing them what the rules are and what makes us mad? And show a bunch of good threads like the One Answer Question Thread? I could see it working and then give a minor infraction to those that break our rules

Agreed, every member on this site should be treated as equal, even if some members may have more knowledge. Even mods are not superior people, they just have different powers than the average user. Promoting any other system would be unfair and likely turn quite a few people away.

The people a system like that turns away probably shouldn't be here anyway. It's not really unfair at all. You post enough good, you get access to this section. Why is that unfair? (imo that would make premium memberships unfair too)

What about lurkers? When they decide to post, for the most part, they have a legitimate question or comment, but they also generally have a low post count.

Or they can get promoted into the section by a mod (just an idea)

Thats why we could implement how mods could approve new threads.

Just an idea, but maybe instead of post count join date, I think you should have to be a member for at least a week to post, and a month to make a new thread (execpt for membeer introductions). I didn't post much at all my first month on the forums, maybe this will force people to lurk.
