What IS a Type D cube?

Can anyone answer this for me? I want to buy a Type D with a Type A core and everyone is saying to get one off of Cube4You, but I don't see anything about a "Type D" cube on their website.

Also, is there anywhere I can buy just a Type A core without the cube? Or if not, does anyone know where I can find a Type A cube too?

Sorry for such a stupid question, but I can't make heads or tails of this whole thing.

Type D is just what the cube is called. DONT GET IT. The people who are telling you to "but it off C4U and a type A core" is VERY OLD. Those cubes (no offence) really suck. I suggest getting a dayan cube. Where do you generally live? C4U is selling from China, and it will take really long to get to you, plus the shipping is ridiculous (Unless you're talking about cube4you.us) There are dedicated stores in the US that will sell you a guhong (good dayan cube) for cheap, and the shipping will be quick.

Huh... really? Well I don't really want to turn this into a "what cube should I get" thread, but I honestly have no idea what I should be looking for, lol. I'm pretty new to all this. I live in the US (California specifically). What makes the Dayan so good?

EDIT: I've also heard the Alpha V is a great cube; does anyone have any experience with that and how it compares to others?

I am just wondering what your price range is. I would say get this and some lube. I suggest you get lubix, unless that is too far out of your price range. otherwise, just get some maru lube.

I also suggest buying from here, which is located in California.

Or you could buy from here, which is also in California.

You can see other cubes from different stores here.

Type D is not a bad cube. People are just really snooty about their Lubix hyper-awesome enhanced megaDayan cube or whatever. There's nothing better than a good type D or E lubed with chapstick.

Thanks for all that great info! I have a bit of extra cash, so I think I might get the Lubix. Should I just get the 2cc package?

No absolutely not! I would not suggest getting lubix! If you want some really good lube, get some shock/diff oil. This can be bought at any hobby store near you.

Let me put it this way, a 2cc tube of lubix lubes about 15 3x3's where as a tube of shock oil lubes 100+ and the one I have costs about 6$. Shock oil and lubix have similar properties and have a similar speed to them. If you do end up getting shock oil get the 20,000 Wt kind. Anything lower then that you might as well use Jig-a-loo.

Dude, the type D cube is no longer sold on Cube 4 you. First of all, the original type D's from YJ have new hardware, which sucks. The cube unscrews itself. A better type D, which is like the old one is called Yuga, which can only be found on Rubikfans store on ebay. Let me tell you, this is a very old cube, and it SUCKS. It's just a Rubik's style cube with springs. That's all it is. DO NOT GET THIS CUBE unless you want it for collection.

It depends. Obviously, the 8cc is the best deal, being 4 times as much lube, but only twice the price, but I suggest 2cc. You just have to lube the core like this, but DON'T LUBE IT TOO MUCH, or your cube will be ruined. If you want to be safe, even better cubes are the ones that the owners of lubix hand mod and lube themselves. The former world record was used with the lubix guhong, and the new world record (same person) was made with the zhanchi. I suggest getting the lubix zhanchi for less then $25 (with shipping) and you should be set with a main 3x3 speedcube for quite a while.

(This thread was made by me, for a new lubix product, but was made into a thread about lubix/shock oil.) I would go for lubix, but if you are hesitating, then just get the lubix zhanchi/guhong.

Even though you could make it yourself and have it cost only as much as the cube and shock oil. :o

I dont mean to be a d**k, but why spend more money then is necessary?

i once had a D-II its pretty good and very smooth but corner cuting isnt the best
better than a rubiks brand but not as good as dayan

Actually, it turned out there was no such thing as a D2. There were 2 cubes which were called D2, which turned out to actually just be YJ sealed cubes. They are the VVGOO 1 and VVGOO 2. I have the second one, it's just a Ghost hand 2 with some slight differences.

Well I decided to get the GuHong and Lubix 2cc from icubemart. I didn't really want the one from lubixcube.com because I want the satisfaction of putting it together and lubing it all myself, hehe; plus I know they have a YouTube video somewhere of how to do the mods they make on the "Ultimate Lubix GuHong" so I can just do it myself if I ever feel the need. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and especially collinbxyz for the help.

You're probably definitely right, but I figure all the hype for Lubix means something good, and the extra money isn't enough to make a big difference to me. Plus -- as far as the 15 cubes vs 100 cubes thing goes -- this is my only cube (besides my very first Rubik's cube) so it's not liking I'm going to be using it very often.

Woah dude, sorry, but if this is your FIRST cube, you really are making a huge mistake starting off with a Gu Hong. You should really get a storebought cube first to learn on. You need to build up skill rather than worrying about speed and times. You will get absolutely NOTHING out of such an advanced cube except headaches and frustration from how hard the cube is to control for a beginner. I know you want to jump right in and get a cool cube, but you really shouldn't mess with a Dayan until you are at least more advanced and are used to speedcubing. Wait, I may have misread your post.

Yeah, I think you misread, haha. I said it's going my only cube BESIDES my very first one. I've had this little Rubik's Cube for about 5 years or so and the past couple months I've picked it up again and been working on learning Fridrich, which I almost have down. Now I just need to work on getting faster, which is what this is for, haha.

I'm not sure, I've never really timed myself. I haven't really been focused on the times; just trying to get faster and increase my look ahead.

You really don't need to worry about look ahead until you average around 30 sec. You can pretty much get faster without it until you get to around the 20's. It's good to get used to it though. It's hard.
