hello, i am a beginner and want to ask something... i am using the classic layer to layer method to solve the cube and on the second layer many times a box of the cube (not the center one) is exactly opposite from the place it should have been.... for example between the yellow and the red center of second layer it's the red side of the box towards the yellow center and the yellow one toward the red center.... what can i do in a situation like that without loosing time..... sorry for the bad english...

the box is called an "edge", the situation is called a "flipped" edge

solution:
insert a random edge from the top layer into that slot
- this brings the flipped edge into the top layer
insert the edge in the correct way

Welcome to the forum!

What he said =P. It really doesn't waste much time and is the only way to do it using the normal Layer by layer method.
Have fun cubing, may I ask how long you've been cubing for?
I used the normal layer by layer method for around 3 weeks before getting bored of it.
In the past couple of weeks have been doing Fridrich which I find much funner and it's more fun being intuitive when doing the f2l even if it takes longer to start.

I mentioned i am a beginner and English is not my native language so forgive me..... so the only way is this??? isn't there a logarithm or something????? :/

I have been cubing for about 4-5 days... :P and my record is about 1min 30 sec...... :) still my average is about 2min 30sec.... really witch way is considered to be the fastest one????

All ways will involve "taking it out first".

You could also google or check the speedsolving wiki for "F2L algorithms": you will find several alg for the case you mention.

However "understanding" instead of just "learning an alg" will be the best in the long run.

Oh what the hell, here you go:

F2L38.png

some algs:
(R' F R F') (R U' R' U) (R U' R' U2) (R U' R')
(R U' R') d (R' U2 R) U2' (R' U R)
(R U R') U2 (R U2 R') d (R' U' R
(R2 U2) (F R2 F') (U2 R' U R')

BTW: I read that you have a flipped edge "many times"

I hope this does not happen after putting in the edge.
Because this would mean that you are putting in the edge wrong ;-)

I think he means that the last F2L edge is in the second layer but flipped. Figuring out how to get it out and then back in correctly took me a while when I first started. Seems so ridiculously easy in hind sight, you just use the algs you already know.
