Hi, I'm new here, this is my first post,

I searched for a thread like this, and couldn't find anything similar.

So I solve with CFOP and only average 55 seconds, with a rubik's brand cube 3x3. I only know 2 look oll and 2 look pll.

How much better do you think my times would be if:

a) I learned 1 look oll
b) I learned 1 look pll
c) I learned both 1 look oll and pll
d) I get a good cube like the guhong?

Thanks!

I'll assume your cube is lubricated and turns well.
a) 3 or 4 seconds
b) 5 or 6 seconds
c) 8 to 10 seconds
d) 5 to 7 seconds.

Assuming your cube is bad:
a) 3 to 6 seconds
b) 10 to 15 seconds
c) 13 to 21 seconds
d) 15 to 30 seconds (but if you get a GuHong and don't lube it, not as much)

I'm also assuming you do F2L. If you don't do F2L, learning that would improve your time the most.

Well, if you're talking about immediate improvement,
a) you'd be driven mad, and improve about 2 secs.
b) is a more sensible option improving by about 3 seconds. And your turn speed and fingertricks will develop.
c) is completely pointless at this stage.
d) i use a storebought and average 18 seconds. you will easily be able to beat me. But for the moment I estimate about a second of improvement.

A better option would be to explore more methods and see what you like- there's nothing worse than learn full last layer then realising that you are more suited to petrus or something! Luckily I quit fridrich before it was time to learn the OLLs. But I still have 20+ useless PLLs now.

I would practice until you are faster until really committing to learning full OLL or PLL. Just learn a few good PLLs and OLLs and practice F2L until you are faster.

If you are itching to learn some new algs I would highly recommend learning these -

Personally I would recommend to learn this Y perm instead of E perm

F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F'

any time you have a diagonal swap of corners you can use this alg.

The benefit of learning this alg is with it you get two free OLLs and you can easily learn 2 more PLLs from it.

Y perm - F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F'

The red algorithm solves this fish OLL

F R U' R' U' R U R' F'

The blue algorithm solves this T OLL, which I call 8-move T or sexyhammer

R U R' U' R' F R F'

Now if you do the blue algorithm first then the red alg you get T perm

R U R' U' R' F R F' F R U' R' U' R U R' F'
As you can see the F' at the end of blue cancels with the F at the beginning of red and the two Rs combine to make R2. Those algs canceled look like this
R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F'

Also with this alg you can solve J perm, simply by moving the last four moves to the beginning.

T perm = R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F'

J perm = R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U'

Good luck

U can sub 10 with 2 look oll and 1 look pllt

I call ******** on this. You need to finish F2L in less than 6-7 seconds in order to finish the cube in sub-10 with 3-look LL and they are VERY FEW people in the WORLD who can do that.

There is a YouTube video of Erik.A doing sub-20 with 4-look LL which is completely possible if you have the F2L of a GOD but sub-10? That is just ********. Where do people get these outrageous claims from?

Back to the topic at hand... I wouldn't bother with full PLL nor full OLL until achieving 20-25 averages.
You will only be able to shave off 2-4 seconds at the most off your LL by knowing all the required 73 algorithm for full OLL/PLL.
You have a long way to go on your F2L and that alone you can shave off 20 seconds easily.

If I were you I would start just learning F2L cases. The skill level you are now just requires you to learn most F2L cases and how tor handle them efficiantly. You can use my tutorial here that will do wonders to your time.

Once you learn most F2L algorithms you need to start learning doing them from all angles and after that it's all about the look-ahead.

Good luck

Dude, Feliks once posted on this forum a 9.xx avg12, using 2-look OLL and 1-look PLL, as gundamslicer said. And that was quite awhile ago too.
Why are you mentioning 4-look LL when gundamslicer never said anything about 4-look?

You just made my day.

I just tried an avg12 with 2-look OLL and 1-look PLL.

9.99, 10.49, 8.97, 11.76, 10.83, (7.43), 9.38, 9.62, 9.36, 8.39, (12.36), 9.59 = 9.84

But I still have 20+ useless PLLs now.

That's exactly what's holding me back from learning Roux. Practicing color-neutral Petrus now after "getting bored" with CFOP. I find blockbuilding to be way more fun than LBL or CFOP.

@5BLD Are you using CMLL or COLL? What do you recommend if I make the switch to Roux? Using full PLL now for Petrus.
