Let us say that these are our standardized orientations for each of the 8 corner orientation cases (Ignore edge orientation):
And that these are our standardized orientations for each of the 4 edge orientation cases (Ignore corner orientation):
In this naming system, each OLL case will have either 2 or 3 characters to define it.
First character: Corner orientation (+, S, A, H, P, U, T, L)
Second character: Edge orientation (+, I, L, -)
Third character: Edge rotation relative to the standardized corner orientation (0, 1, 2, 3)
To name a case, orient the cube so that the corners are in one of the 8 standardized orientations, then determine the first character:
+: All corners correctly oriented
S: Sune
A: Antisune
H: H
P: Pi
U: U
T: T
L: L
The second character will be determine by which of the four edge orientations the case has:
+: All edges correctly oriented
I: 2 opposite edges correctly oriented
L: 2 adjacent edges correctly oriented
-: No edges correctly oriented
Finally, if the edge orientation is either of the "I" or "L" case, determine the number of clockwise rotations ("U turns") that would need to be performed on the standardized orientation (i.e., NOT the number of clockwise rotations that would need to be performed on the case to match the standardized orientation) to match the case's rotation. This number is the third character.

I'll give a few examples to help you better understand if you're having trouble grasping the system.
Case Name: P+
Corner Orientation: P
Edge Orientation: +
Edge Rotation: Unneeded, because it's not an "I" or "L" edge case.
Case Name: U-
Corner Orientation: U
Edge Orientation: -
Edge Rotation: Unneeded, because it's not an "I" or "L" edge case.
Case Name: HL (Or HL0, though the third character is redundant)
Corner Orientation: H
Edge Orientation: L
Edge Rotation: 0
Case Name: TI
Corner Orientation: T
Edge Orientation: I
Edge Rotation: 0
Case Name: SL3
Corner Orientation: S
Edge Orientation: L
Edge Rotation: 3
It would also be possible to add a 4th character to define the corner rotation, thus allowing you to not only specify which case, but also which angle (for instance) an algorithm is to be performed at.
Questions? Thoughts? Improvements?
