avoid turning the cube

Some questions on cube rotations,
1. Is it better to do U/U' on OLL to get it in the correct place?
2. Don't you think it is actually slower in the F2L to do d/d' insted of y/y'? I find it is.
Thanks in advance

Of course it's WAY faster to do a U/U' instead of a cube rotation on OLL......

You may think d/d' is slower than y/y', but once you get used to it, and can become fast. Besides, d = y' + U, and d' = y + U' so it's two moves in one....

Just tried it:
y2 FRUR'U'F' : 1.27
U2 FRUR'U'F' : 1.22

I don't think xyz rotations slow you down much. But I try not to do them if possible. When I started, I did y like crazy during F2L. Now, I average maybe 2 rotations during F2L.

I'm now practising F2L with as much "mirrors and inverses..." as I can, the only thing I don't use are B/B' and d/d'. Also I almost nerver see Gungz, Nakajima and Harris using d/d'...

well I don't see whats so slow about doing a y/y' and dragging your pointer with it to do a U/U'...

Yea I am trying to limit my y/y' and am having success so far!
