Solve by Opposite Sides?

I know there's a bunch of different ways to solve the cube, and I've looked at some of them, but what I'm trying to find is a solution that involves solving two opposite sides first. I remember a friend when I was a teenager working to learn this solution from a book, at the same time I was learning my own solution, also from a book.... yeah, this'll date me but it was before the age of the internet when the cube was new LOL

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

You need this:http://rubikscube.info/ortega.php

Or perhaps Human Thistlethwaite where you "sort of" solve two oposite faces first.
"sort of" because you treat opposite colors as being the same color in the first couple of steps of the method.

I fin this a very fun way to solve the cube. It does not require a lot of algs at all.
But knowing some corner OLL's, Guimond or Ortega algs makes the corners steps more efficient.

I believe the Fisher method does this.

Solve first layer --> solve third layer corners --> solve third layer edges --> solve middle layer.
After the first three steps, two opposite sides (and their respective layers) are solved.

thanks everyone, I've looked at every link :)

Attila, that's it!

Corners done.... this seemed a lot easier when I was a kid LOL

I didn't know actually, thanks.... was planning to look it up after work today :)

Did I miss this solution in the methods listed in the wiki here?

When I started cubing I swiched from Layer By Layer to Ortega, and was almost immedeatly faster, even though I didn't learn all the edge orientation cases from the Jelinek site. (used roux orientation instead)
