Hey :)

I'm probably going to Dutch Open 2010, which will be my first competition, but I have a few questions about it. It's going to cost me a lot of money (at least a lot of money for me) because it's on the other side of The Netherlands (I live in almost the most southern city of The Netherlands) and I'll have to wake up at about 4:30 AM, so I want to be sure I'm not going to be disappointed :p (not expecting to get disappointed or anything :p)

I'm not sure if this is the right subforum, but it looked like the "Official WCA Competitions" subforum wasn't the right place.

1. What exactly is Dutch Cube Day?
2. Are there like small "shops" where you can buy cubes there? If so, what kind of cubes and how much will they cost? (so I know how much money to bring)
3. Are there any people from here who are going to Dutch Open? I'm going to drop my mother off at Dierenpark Emmen but I don't want to be alone all the time or something.
4. What kind of people are there? Like around what age group, are there any people of around 14-15 etc.
5. Is there anything else I should know?
6. An unrelated question: I'm now averaging around 55 seconds. I learned Fridrich F2L 3 days ago and I'm already faster than with the LBL F2L, but still very choppy. I use 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL, planning on learning full PLL in maybe a week or so. Will I be able to average around 30-35 seconds in 2 months or is that too little time? I practice a few hours a day.

For any people who want to know: I'm planning on competing in 3x3, I ordered a QJ 4x4 today and it'll probably arrive next week, so I'll probably compete in 4x4 too, maybe in 5x5 but I don't think so because I don't have any money left now to buy one :p Also I think I'll be competing in 3x3 BLD.

Thanks in advance :)

@Bobso2 Hey :) I hope to see you there too!

@Kidstatdust Thanks :)

@StefanPochmann Hey, thanks! That looks pretty nice :) I think I'm going to bring a lot of money :p

You're out of luck, since this is the first time they're holding it in Emmen. In the past few years, it has always been in Eindhoven.

I will be there to showcase my puzzles and so will many other designers. You should look forward to playing with/seeing them. Oskar van Deventer's creations are especially interesting, they show great out-of-the-cube thinking.

This is probably not for you, but for others it might be interesting to know it is possible to order most of my puzzles from me for purchase on the DCD (please at least a month in advance). I don't plan to have any stock other than the pre-ordered puzzles.

Yea, I'm really out of luck :\ It would be a lot easier/cheaper for me if it would just be in Eindhoven.

Nice puzzles by the way :) I don't have nearly enough money to buy one of them though :(

I registered for Dutch Open 2010 :D

I'm going to compete for 3x3, 4x4 and 3x3 BLD :)

3x3 is going to be no problem, 4x4 will arrive in a week or so, so I'll have 1 1/2 month to practice so won't be much of a problem either, and I'm going to start practicing BLD now.

I am also going to the Dutch open 2010 and it is also my first competition, i am really looking forward to it but i have a few problems:
I dont worry about my 3x3 because my avg is about 25s and i think i can reduce it ti 20s. But i realy suck in OH and i cant solve the cube BLD and my 4x4 and my 2x2 are broken. I live in Amsterdam so i have to to emmen only for the normal 3x3 competition.
My next problem is that im goining allone to the competion and i dont know other speedcubers who also go to the Dutch Open.
Who has any tips for me?

As far as the improvement goes: A month and a half ago I averaged 70-80 seconds, and now I'm averaging around low 40s with about 1 or 2 hours of practice a day. 2 months should be plenty of time :)

Hi Ruben!

It is going to be my first time too :)

I am 16 now, and I am going alone too. I think we shouldn't worry about that, there are a lot of new people to meet ;)

You can borrow my eastsheen 2x2 and 4x4 at the competition, but you won't have a cube now to practice :S maybe you should order one if you really want to participate with 2x2 and 4x4

Blindfolded solving takes not that much time to learn, I think you can learn it if you want before the comp.

One more question: how are you going to travel to emmen?

see you there ;) , Boaz

looks like a lot of new cubers this year.:D
the dutch community of people around 13-16 years old is huge btw.
(atleast 8 people who are active in cubing:))
im also planning on having a cubemeeting in the future for every kid near Utrecht. (however its a bit hard too reach with the train:mad:)

Yeah don't worry about cubes I can lend you a mini QJ 4x4 and I have an extra 2x2.
Also don't worry about being alone, everyone is very friendly there.

If you can make that happen, I will be there :D sounds fun

I'll also be there with a friend, so nobody's going to be alone!
It's my first tournament too, and I'm 17.
Also, I live in Geleen, so you don't live far away from me (I guess) :D
