Yeah i went to the Harvard Fall 2010, (saw Rowe's NAR) and got the Maru 3x3 DIY and 4x4. And suprisingly the Maru 3x3 is unpoppable. I actually havent had it pop once since i got it. And even my friends would take it and like flick it around and it wouldnt pop like my AV. Its actually like really loose AV. If you dont have one i recommend it just for trying if its not your thing. Hey then so what.

Its actaully good.

I have one, and it's good in my opinion.. never pops, and good speed.. even without lube

Hrm, maybe I should have tried one out at DeVry, Jim was selling them. Oh well, I guess I can try one out at Dayton.

PS: Don't get the gold Maru 3x3, it's turn quality is HORRIBLE!

I have a white one and I hate it. Maybe it's because I'm trying to develope finger tricks to be sub40 and I'm a cornercutting dependant... but yes, I really hate it. I only have GuHong, FII and AV btw.

It's been my main for over a year. I got it in a store, and it only just being discovered. Hehe...

OP: it does pop after a couple thousand solves :p, but that could just be me.
btw...mine's blue.

The MARU 3x3 is my main speedcube. I like the sound, the feel, and what ever i do i can't seem to pop my MARU. This is MAYBE the maru is like Joy cube, the centers in my opinion is identical to Joy. But with the lubricant, you will be surprised of what this cube can do. Locks up a bit, but now that much.

Mine is a DIY kit with black base, of what cyoubx said, mine pops every 800-890 solves. In a period of one week, it pops once (yeah, I solve whenever I can and sometimes I get bored and do some PLL's).

what ever i do i can't seem to pop my MARU.

Seriously? Andy bought one, and the first time I played with it a few nights ago, it exploded all over his room and I lost a corner...
yours is too loose. a medium to tight tension is OK. use the lubrican]

So you're saying it pops when it's too loose, but above you said you couldn't get it to pop no matter what you do.

I'm confuzzled. So does it pop when it's too loose, or doesn't it?

If you loosen it, it blows in your hands.. but I think if you find good compromise, than it doesn't pop and is good speed and cut angles..

You imply that I don't already know that.
Because I do.

I also never even mentioned tension. |:

I have a blue maru.

-My Maru locks up more than I'd like-

Well, your locking up is caused by the loose tension, when you cut corners the loosenes makes the corner ramble, get stuck onto something and locks up

Are every body here sure that their "Maru" is the real one? There is another cube that tends to get mixed up with it even though they're so different.
See this thread to see if you got the right one.

Speedcube shop sent me one to give away at DeVry. Once it was lubed it was so amazing it made me sick to give it away.
Luckily Jim had some left over from nats and I was able to get one form him. It reminds me of a the original A1 except lighter, faster and less popping.
Even the gold coated one turned out good after lubing with "high viscosity silicone".

Before lube they are terrible, after they are great. They do tend to lock a little which I'm not used to anymore. Cubes like the guhong, alpha V and FII have spoiled me. Mine all had blue cores.
