Hi all,

I've been hearing about "forced" skips in the last layer for awhile now, but have not actually seen a tutorial or at least an overview on it. Would someone be able to give me a resource for that?

A couple things:
1. REALLY sorry if this has been posted/asked before, but I could not find anything.
2. I would post this the OQaA thread, but I thought this might get a discussion going, since as far as I know, forcing skips is not a "method," but more or less a group of cases (again, I know basically nothing, so sorry if I'm wrong.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Out of curiosity, did you just post this because I mentioned forcing a PLL skip in the underwater solve I just posted? lol.

Anyway, for the most part it just comes down to learning multiple OLL algs and learning when to use which in order to skip corners (COLL, basically) or skip PLL entirely.

Hope that helps. :)

Er...no, but it reminded me of it. I saw it being mentioned in one of Camerons' videos too, and other places.

And yes, that helps a lot, thanks.

Well, there are OLL and PLL skips. OLL is usually what's forced in a skip, and with that you have Winter Variation. I believe MGLS (subsets CLS and ELS) are also forced OLL skips (I might be wrong on this). Check the wiki for WV and MGLS.

As Anthony said, usually PLL skips are "forced" from COLLs, which there are a lot of pages out there about that. I recommend the wiki for that as well.

You could always learn ZBLL if you wanted :P

Okay, so to organize thoughts...

WV is used for forcing OLL skips
ELS is for partial edge control
and
COLL is for PLL skips

Read post above.
I recommend using COLL. Even though there is only a 1/12 chance of PLL skip, you are forced to get a H/Z/Ua/Ub perm, which all are fast PLLs (for me anyhow)

I don't think F2LL is worth learning, all it really saves is the insertion of the F2L pair before you run into a 2 look OLL case. COLL on the other hand may be worth learning however.

I think F2LL is worth it, but not too much. Might just save a few moves, not too much though.
EDIT
I guess the last sentance may be the same with 1LOLL compared to 2LOLL
