How to recognize G perms?

i recognise them to look at the 2 matching corner/edge
if the 2 are in the back then R2 u' if they are in the front then R2 u
if they are on the right side i look if they are in the front or back
in the front you do R U R' y in the back R U' R' y'

G perm recog?

How do you recog G perms?

Most people I've heard of/seen recog G perms by placing the headlights on L and looking for the block, but I recog differently. I look at the block (for example, RUF/RU is correct) and the edge beside it (in this case, UF).

If the FU sticker is the opposite color from the FRU sticker, then it's one G-perm, and if it's not, it's the other G-perm.

Anybody else do this?

Initially I tried the headlights thingy: I had highlighted the headlights on badmephisoto's PLL sheet (what a sentence...)

Then Chris Hardwick showed me the following, using two R and two L algs:

With 2x1 block in the front, look at the edge next to the "1" part of the block
if the edge needs to go to the back it's alg starting with R2... or L2...
if the edge needs to move across it's alg starting with F... or F' alg (or y'R - y L' if you like)

In this recognition / algo set the edge actually shows you in which direction to start the algo.

I do the lazy method which is recognise the relationship between headlights and block, but pretty sure this is not the best method since you need to look at 2 or 3 sides.

I will try to learn how to look at just block or headlights like how these pros do it.

I do the "lazy method" as stated above, I suppose. I guess it seems pretty simple: Look at a side until you see a bar or headlights, then look at where that bar is in correlation to the headlights and you're good to go. I've seen a PLL 2 side recognition guide, I figure I might start using that after I get sub20 or something.

I use both. Makes G Perm recog really fast, definately faster than using one or the other.
Use both.
EDIT
And I use Sarah's also.

I look at the block (always put it on the front), and then at the back edge and the one touching the block. I recognize the perm by looking which edge needs to go where. The side edge that has to go to the back or the back edge that has to go against the block always goes to the right side for all my G-perms, so that's handy. But I have to look at three sides :fp

i just look at the block and how close it is to the headlights ( i dont care what colour the headlights are) and then AUF do the alg then AUF if needed
