A lot of new puzzles are on their way. A megaminx and 2 big cubes (4 and 5), and when they arrive I'm going to figure them out first and leave my 3x3x3 alone for some time.

However, it took me a lot of work to get where I am now (solves are around 40-45 seconds nowadays) and as we all know times get worse if you stop practicing, and I don't want to get 50+ solves, EVER again.

How many solves a day are recommended to stay 'in shape'?

I took a week off of cubing for a vacation and I went from 25 sec. average to 32 sec. average. Definitely don't take more than a weekend off. I suggest doing a best 10 of 12 twice a day to stay in shape. If you want to improve your times do about 50 solves a day. Hope I helped.:)

truthfully as many as possible, I solve while watching tv, checking the forums, on the phone ect. just when you have the time do it

That's what I do now but I won't have the time then, cause I'll be solving the new puzzles everyday. :D

That's the proof that even a very short break of a couple of days can ruin your good times. I'll do an average of 12 a day, thanks. :D

Sounds like some statistically sound proof to me...
If you read through the forums a bit you will find also some testimonies of breaks actually decreasing times.

And good practicing beats "solving as much as possible" everytime.

Don't worry to much about your times. I am around the same speed as you and even though I barely cubed the last two weeks my average time has not suffered at all.

Hey, great to meet someone who also averages around 40-45! Most people are always faster. :p
(en dan ook nog een Belg, what are the odds :p)
