New location of the US Open...

Oh, yeah! So much better! No more heat problems (I assume, and I hope).

We had just about already decided to change our minds and attend, but this ices it. We're going to be there.

(And with our last visit, we never got a chance to go to the Underground. I'm glad we can finally go. I haven't been there in like 20 years; I'm sure it's completely unrecognizable.)

Edit: Oops - more like 30 years. I'm older than I think. :)

Hadley, is the underground indoors? I saw some things on the website about it having balconies overlooking downtown.

Also, for "nearby" attractions, it lists the Coke Museum. I was kind of interested in going to that, how "close" is it though? Maybe something I can do quickly when I don't qualify for the next rounds :)

I didn't realize the other venue was that far away. I probably would have had to rent a car, but now I'm guessing I can do everything through public transportation.

All in all, I like the change.

Parts of it are. It depends on where it will be.

It's about a mile I think. Just on the other side of hte Olympic park.

Hell. I'll probably take MARTA(The Atlanta subway)

This rocks :D

The Coke Museum is pretty close by - 4 or 5 blocks. I know because we were at the Coke Museum when we overheard a Security guy giving directions to some other guys who wanted to go to the Underground, and they said it was "4 or 5 blocks that way". And the Aquarium is right next to the Coke Museum, and that's nice too.

30 years ago when I last went (before it closed and reopened), I remember visiting in the summer, and I remember being very comfortable most of the time there. I'm pretty sure at least some of it is indoors. So hopefully we might be indoors.

The aquarium is very overrated.

Underground Atlanta isn't that bad.
Its not the most exciting place in the world, but there is plenty other stuff around Atlanta to see. The gang related stuff shouldn't a problem either. Most of the people are a lot safer than they look.

Prejudice in America might be responsible for a lot of those comments. A number of people here seem to think that just because someone looks a certain way, they're dangerous. I'm more interested in knowing if there are many actual incidents of violence there; I'm not worried about what people look like. Kurzeja's comments make me feel a lot better about the place.

Atlanta does have a lot of violent crimes, but they aren't random. The chances of someone attacking a speed cuber in Underground Atlanta seem very small. You might have to worry if you dress like a thug and walk into one of the bad neighborhoods around Atlanta though.

So I haven't seen any mention on the price of the competition. I would assume the price of the competition would have something to do with the venue so will the new venue affect the price?

Where to stay

Has there been any discussion on where to stay? I'll be coming from out of town, so any help picking a hotel would be great. I'll have a vehicle, and a wife and son. So, once I bust out with my ~40 sec. avg, I'll need to have other things to do. Perhaps the Coke Museum and Aquarium. Can anyone recommend other fun things to do for out of towners?

Thanks,
Neil
