Dear Anders Larsson,
We feel really sorry about not organizing Hangzhou Open well.
Here is what happened that day.
The schedule was published online in our BBS by Ming Zheng, the WCA delegate of this competition, before January 31 on which Hangzhou Open was hold. There was only one round in 3x3 BLD according to that schedule. It was our fault not to print it out and gave it to every competitor, and didn’t state clearly in the beginning of the competition. It was possible that Haiyan Zhuang didn’t see the schedule in the internet and kept thinking that there were two rounds in 3x3 BLD. Also, one of our workers told him that there was still one round when he asked after he finished first round.
In the afternoon, he was a little angry when he found there was no second round. He came to me and Xiaoping Liu, asking if we could add another round in 3x3 BLD. We discussed with Ming Zheng. First we decided to add one round if there were plant of time. Haiyan was told about this decision. However, time was not rich and Chris Krueger suggested that adding a round was not appropriate. So finally we didn’t add. Haiyan was really angry at that time and he took the microphone in the middle of the competition saying that it was not fair to him and that WCA delegates should be selected by vote but not by nomination. It was awkward at that time. In awarding ceremony, Haiyan said to us that he would tear up his award certificate. But he didn’t and claimed in public that he was sorry about interrupting the competition.
After that, in the following few days, Haiyan kept telling people how unfair he was and how Chris didn’t want him to break the record.
We can understand that he is eager for breaking up the record because he practiced very hard before competition. As organizers, we do want new records appear in our competition, but first we want our competition to be in good order.
If you have further questions, please let us know.
