I've been getting several solves lately where I can control the LL with my last F2L slot and end up with a completely oriented LL that takes me straight into PLL. The usual thing for most experience cubers is that they always try to keep at least 2 edges oriented on the LL as they finish their last F2L slot(Fridrich users) that way they will have a better chance of getting one of those easy OLL cases. So is it lucky to get a case where you are on your last F2L and you see an opportunity to preserve the complete orientation of the LL which allows you to go right into the PLL step? The reason why I am asking this is because it seems like the more work you put into preserving the OLL, the less lucky it is and is more like it is simply expected that not only are you going to usually end with four oriented edges but sometimes you will end up with a completely oriented LL because you actually tried to preserve it. This is not the same as finishing F2L and then just ending with an oriented LL because you actually are consciously thinking of preserving it. So what do you think? Is this a lucky situation or not?

The chance for it happening is ofcourse very small but if you know how to skip something by recognizing the case and doing it in diffrent way to get a better case(or skip a hole case) i would not consider it luck.

If i learnt 20 full LL-algs for some sune cases would it be considered lucky that i knew it and happened to get one?

there are about 3916 LL-cases, so if you know 21 Perms, 20 Sunes and 56 other OLLs, and you consider all cases equally probable, you will have never have a 20% chance to get a case you can solve. So it should be a lucky solve.

Well, you'd have to calculate the chance to get a case, where you can preserve the orientation, so it depends on the individual cuber.I know about 5 different ways to insert the last pair and which case that solves, so my chance to get an OLL-preserve-case is very low :P

I guess it really just depends on which point of view you prescribe to. The "purely numbers" point-of-view would say this is lucky whereas the other point-of-view would say it isn't because you are making a conscious effort to control the LL.

In fact when all your LL edges are oriented before doing the 4th pair, you'll have 1 chance out 27 to have all the corners oriented after F2L so 1 chance out 27 to have an OLL skip. when you learn some ZBF2L cases or some F2LL cases, the LL orientation phase takes less than 6 moves + a normal F2L.
