Human Thistlethwait is a very interesting method. I don't think you'll ever win any competitions with it, but i is a fun way to solve the cube.

Here's Part 1 and Part 2 of a good tutorial and a website.

This was just the second method I leant for the cube and I whacked it out in one night, so I'm sure you can handle it! =) Enjoy.

If you are moving from the beginner's method to a different method, use the Fridrich CFOP.
Cross
First 2 Layers
Orientation the Last Layer(Making the top layer completed but edges and corners not in the right place)
Permutation of the Last Layer (Swapping pieces around to solve the cube)
This thread gives you plenty of info on it.

Then practice.
Or, look at the previous post.

I have found that learning new algs doesn't make me forget other ones.
But offcourse learning "new method" algs could take some time that you could otherwise use to learn algs of your main method.

For minimal new algs consider the following:
Corners first:
orienting the corners does not require any new alg
Then placing the edges can be done fully intuitive with M, U, M', U' and "set up moves" moves (could learn a few M U algs to be more efficient)

Edges first:
Look at the Dimzay2010 youtube tutorial

Not a very efficient method but you could just pull some random stuff together like:
- Use some blockbuilding to build your first two layers, for instance two Roux blocks
- fix corners OLL style
- fix M slice via MU (as in CF method)
- Then finish LL with the OLL PPL' you already know
At any stage you could look into some specific algs to make it more efficient.

But in any case you are learning to build the cube in different ways and I think this is good thing.
