Where shall I go from here?

Hi everyone, this is my first post.:)

I decided I might learn the fridrich method, but there are a hell of a lot of algorithms to learn. I've decided that I'll learn all of the f2l ones (which is easy because they're all intuitive), but I'm not sure what to do after that. It would take a long time to learn all of the algorithms for the last layer, all 57 of them. What would you recommend? BTW I'm using the guide on http://www.cubefreak.net/ if that helps. For the last layer, at the moment I only know the algorithms for the method at http://peter.stillhq.com/jasmine/rubikscubesolution.html , and using the f2l algs I know and the LL algs I know, my fastest time is 1:05 (lucky) and 1:10 (not lucky). My goal is to average less than 1 minute. Can anyone help me out here please?

PLL first, then OLL.

PLLs: U perm, A perm first.
OLLs: Any alg to orient edges, then the 7 corner orientation algs.

Then learn whatever you run into often.

But looking ahead to avoid pauses while solving is the most important element to cutting down your times.

78 algorithms ! That's a hell of a lot of memorizing.

I just found this page on cubefreak http://www.cubefreak.net/twolook.html , I think I'll go with that method as it only requires learning 16 algorithms in total for the final layer.

I got 1:05 again today, and this time it wasn't a lucky one! :)

Yay I reached my goal!:D:D:D 56.14 seconds, I can't believe it! I learned a few more F2L algs this morning, so maybe that helped. Here's the screen shot.

My next goal is 45 seconds. Thanks for all your help everyone. :D

Congratulations on your sub 1 time, but are you consistent?
Sometimes, you'll get lucky (skip a step) or just be "in the zone" i.e. you just seem to be solving really well, looking ahead efficiently.

Make sure that sub 1 time is consisten before moving on to 45 seconds.

Otherwise, well done, and good luck!

1:45 to 56.xx O_o

you're gonna have to reduce the 70+second solves

Good job on your first sub 1min...now that you know that you can get sub 1min, make it so that it isn't a rare occurence

How long have you been cubing? I started around 4 months ago and I am just now starting to learn a 3 look LL, and I learned Fridrich F2l about 2 weeks ago. Use the intermediate method steps from your beginners site (same one I used.) So learn the other two cases to permute the last layer edges, those algorithms can be found on many websites, including this one, and there is a link from the beginners site. Don't rush into things, it took me several weeks to get my times down to about a minute, and now with a Fridrich F2l, and a partial 3 look LL, I have a best time of 28.7 seconds. It will all come in time, if you practice.

I guess I was in the 'zone' when I got this solve, as there were no skips or nothing. I don't usualy get as low as 1:45 , but everyone makes mistakes :).

I've been able to solve a cube for around two years, but started speed cubing just a couple of weeks ago.

Which algs do you use for your 3 look ll?

Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support.

Here's how to learn them

Well here's a simplified way to learn the algorithms

1.Learn all the OLL algorithms that already have the cross. 7 algorithms
2.Learn all the PLL algorithms, the edge and corner cycles first (because you can finish PLL with only using those algorithms. 21 algorithms
3.Now this isn't much learning but If you already haven't, you should learn how to get the cross in 2 second average.
4. After you've gotten #1,2, and 3 down solid, learn the entire F2L 42 algorithms.
5.After you gotten down the F2L, then finally learn the rest of the OLL 50 algorithms

I think it's 120 algorithms around that - should take you 3+ months for everything (unless you're obsessed):D

Ooh that's a lot to learn. I'm planning to learn the 4 look last layer, then possibly advance on to 3 look last layer. But full Fridrich looks way to daunting.
