Hey, I just started practicing 2x2 again and I just realized I suck, lol! ;) I think one reason I'm not doing well is my first step, making one face. (I use ortega) I saw some fast 2x2 averages on video and they seem to use very few moves for the first step, maybe 3-4. I always seem to be using more, like 5-6, and that's on a GOOD scramble! Can anyone give me advice on how to reduce move count for this step? Some example scrambles would be great!

I know your problem, you solve like it was a cross there putting one corner at the time.

Pros starts from any colour and normaly choose a side where two are solved already and then use intuitive "algs" for putting in the other two, normaly by pair them up and then place them together. Average is some 2-3 turns I guess.

If you want to get really speedy, then also learn to see if there will be any pairs in FL during inspection, also try to see the colour of the pair if it will be only one, that speeds up recognition for PBL a lot.

Also, you need to use algorithms more optimized for the 2x2 on the last layer or at least algs that are shorter. Instead of doing the T-perm, try twisting the top layer until you see only one corner permuted correctly and execute a 3 corner permutation cycle. It is much faster to do than a T-perm.

I already know optimal OLL's and PBL algs, only my first face is a problem.
