Tell us about you first ever competition

No hard feelings guys!

As it was my very first WCA solve ever I hadn't even noticed or understood that it was changed into an average of 5 round.
I fully understand now and it would indeed be odd to change formats during a round.

I'll be back for more!

I have only been to one event so far - CubeCentric 2010 in Toronto. My average was about 35 secs so I only went there to get a ranking. I had never used a real timer before. I failed to start the timer properly in my first solve, and I was disqualified. I screwed up another solve, but I managed to get one sub-30 solve of out the remaining 3.

I went there alone and I knew no one. No one talked to me except for the receptionists and the judges. I knew no one after the event. Are all WCA events like this?

Sounds like no. Just don't be socially awkward? My guess is if you went up to any random group they'd let you join them.

I tried to ask a kid on how to use his timer. He replied, "it does not work". That ended the conversation.

My first competition was the cmu fall 2009

I was cubing for about a year and a half by then and i had an unofficial average of sub 30. When i got there i was so nervous because i never met another cuber before in real life because i am the only known one in my town. At the competition i made some awsome friends broke my pb on 5x5 3 times in a row( all 3:05.xx ) did a pile solves bought a ff shapeshifting 3x3x5 and had a just plane awsome time. I've been to 2 other competitions since but the first was by far the best

My first competition was in march, 09'. It was san diego open, at the ruben H fleet science center. i was pretty average at the time, around 40 seconds. I did pretty good but didn't really make it to the second round. After that i went around and went in the science center, which i got a free entry to since i was in the competition.

Nothing to interesting.
