Start of a new addiction?

Hi Michael.
Do you really think I will progress that much in F2L since I'm practising like whole day @ school? Or do I need to learn some PLL's to get those sub-60's?

Edit:
Wow, my try for today:
RA of 12: 1.18.66
RA of 5: 1.20.89
Best RA of 5: 1.14.12

I was happy about that. But a few hours later I tried again, and:

RA of 12: 1.11.59
RA of 5: 1.10.32
Best RA of 5: 1.06.56

+A F2L PB of 1.01.48 :D

just keep at the F2L.....it also helps to solve larger cubes to work on recognition....im averaging around 50 secs right now with F2L and beginners LL

Wow sam, you are really on fire!

I have also started recently and currently at a 1 min 35 average.
Guess being 20 years older and having less time to practice doesn't really help.

Hey, let's race at the Belgian open for the rookie of the year award ;-)
Guaranteed 1st price for you!

Sorry for not responding sooner guys, I was really busy with some things at school. I also practised a lot at school. A few times I had the feeling that I would have definately got sub 1 min, but I had no timer. Today I started a new 12 session timing since 5 days, with these results:

13 March
RA of 12: 1.04.91
RA of 5: 1:00:53
Best RA of 5: 1.00.53
NEW PERSONAL RECORD: 49.58!

That's like a big improvement since my last session.
I had three sub 1 min solves. Also 3 1.10+ solves. I know 4 PLL's now, but my F2L is so much faster now :D. Next week I'm going to learn some new PLL's.

Thanks all for watching me!

@DaBear: 37.89 is a long way from 49.58 :D

Today's stats:

RA of 12: 59.77
RA of 5: 58:57
Best RA of 5: 58.57

My first sub1min RA of 5, and my first sub1min RA of 12 :D!
6 Sub1min solves, all solves were sub 1.06min (excl a 1.49min solve, too bad). Still see progress, don't want to learn PLL's, too lazy :$

Hi Sam,

I am about 5 second behind you.

I think you are using F2L with 4 look LL as well?
What I am currently doing is learning some easy-to-recognise OLL's and PLL's.

OLL dots, T's and line
PLL A is very easy to recognise and you probably use it as first move in the 2 look PLL anyway.
T- perm is another one that is very easy to spot.

Check badmephistos tutorial on how to spot PLL and see how easy some of them can be recognized.

@Chapuunka
I'm still way too slow @ F2L, so I want to improve that a little more first.

@Cubenovice
What's 4 Look LL?
I already know 4 pll's. The first two which you already need from the beginning, and the '+' Pll and the diagonal line Pll.

What are OLL dots, T's and line?
And what do you mean with 2 look PLL?
I will look at badmephistos tutorial when I get better @ F2l.

Hi Samdor, perhaps I was wrong in assuming you are using 4 look last layer.
So before going into too much detail perhaps you can share your method for solving the last layer?

Regarding the badmephisto youtube videos: it is never too early to check his channel; there is stuff for all skill levels.
I suggest checking out the video "how to become a speedcuber", that will explain what 4LLL and 2look OLL and 2 look PLL is.

The OLL (orient last Layer) is the step after finishing the first two layesrs where you bring all the top cubies with the same side up.

Dots, T's and line I am learning are in the attached ppt file.
Images and algoritms are from badmephisto's site.

Since I'm quite busy with school I don't want to spend too much time to cubing besides the daily 12 solves. My method for solving last layer is (R2 U) (R U R' U') (R' U') (R' U R') and that one as much untill I get last layer (and ofcourse those other 3 Pll's). Todays stats!!!!!!!!!

21 March
RA of 12: 1.01.66
RA of 5: 1.03.48
Best RA of 5: 58.28

4 hours later, still 21 March:
RA of 12: 56.62
Ra of 5: 55.55
Best RA of 5: 55.12
NEW PB: 47.88

As you can see, I beated all my records :D!

Congratulations on your new best times.

It seems like you got your priorities right!

@ Michael:
There is still so much to learn...
I know whare to find most of the info but have too little time to really study and practice.

So, finally an update again. Still did RA of 12 last weeks, but had nothing interesting to say. I don't improve that much anymore. I got a new PB yesterday (37.73) but besides that it's every day RA of 12 about 1 min, sometimes 55 sec and sometimes 1 min 5.

Today's stats:
11 April
RA of 12: 53.91 (best ever)
RA of 5: 51.12 (best ever)
Best RA of 5: 51.12 (best ever)

Ok, that's an improvement, only 1 time 1min+. But I was lucky a few times. Everytime my cross+f2l takes about 30-35 seconds or something. Anyone that has a tip or something? Thanks!

go ahead and start f2l, itll make you slower to begin with but dont get discouraged, your times will fall quickly after you get proficient with it

welcome to the forums!!

first, master the beginner's method. Then shift to a more advanced method when you get near your 1 minute mark. I recommend Leyan Lo's beginner guide at cubefreak.net.
Then, if you are 45 seconds and below, try full Fridrich, ZZ, ZB, VH, wutever. Try a really advanced method. Experiment with them all. Try to mix steps from different methods. And also, dont forget: fingertricks. Don't move the faces of the cube with your hands, just fingers.

And youtube.com. It REALLY helps.
