Hey guys. I took a break from cubing and I am getting back into it. I figured itd be cool to have a fresh start and learn a new method. People using Roux have been getting pretty good times, so I thought Id try it. The two video tutorials I have found have been quite confusing. Could someone lay out the basics of Roux for me?

Obviously I looked at that page. Ive looked at a lot of sites about Roux. But I mainly dont understand the part about how to build the blocks, like what colors to use and stuff. The video tutorial the guys just says, "and we wanna put this here so we just..." and he just does a bunch of moves and its in place. I do F2L so block building is weird to me. And on that page it still doesnt explain the corners method very well. The algorithm stuff is confusing.

Hey there, hope I can be of some use here. I recently switched from CFOP to Roux, and I was having the same problem, I only saw F2L pairs.
You can see here (http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?p=328167#post328167), where I posted my Roux solution to a solve. My way of blockbuilding was basically to make a 2x2x1, and expand it, which works fine and dandy sometimes. You can see miniGoings post after mine with HIS solution, which is starting with a 1x1x3 block and storing it in the left, and then joining the last 2 edges with the center and using wide u to put it into place. Just look at the solve, and try doing it. It really opened my eyes to different ways to blockbuild and shed like 10 seconds off my average.

Eek, that was long winded. Sorry.

No, not really. You just said you watched two videos and asked for the basics to be laid out (I think Gilles' page does that nicely). Good that you've now provided more details about what you've done and what you have trouble with. I suggest that next time, you do that right away.

no it isn't. if you're going to complain about how you can't get faster at it, just stop trying. Practice is the key to Roux. How much practice? I spent 2 years with Roux before I could sub-20.

I show you basics in the tutorials. Not advanced stuff. That stuff you have to find out on your own.
