[Official] Erik Akkersdijk (almost) new 3x3 WR

Ah, so close, what a shame! That's what you get for not using a store bought cube :p (I hope after saying this, that you weren't using a store bought cube >.<)

LOL is it just me? or does it seem like NOBODY cares what happened to him in the video lol. the guy beside him looks like TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS to what going on lol, and as soon as Erik POPs, Matyas just like turns away and doesnt even pay attention lol. XD

Keep in mind if your chance is x (expressed as a number from 0 to 1 inclusive) of getting a good cross, Erik's chance is x*(2-x).

So if you crazy fast solvers in general have a 10% chance of a *very* good cross Erik has a 19% chance, etc.

And yes I agree that opposite color solving rocks. Erik that stinks about the pop, but you will get an awesome solve again soon ;-) Knowing you I wouldn't be surprised if it was very soon.

Pff, opposite colour solving is still inferior to COLOUR NEUTRALITY!!!

What are the chances that I would get a good cross? I would say about 5/6? That is, judging from what I normally get...

The chance you get something with color neutrality is approximately
1-(1-x)^6 where x has a value from 0 to 1.

I think this is not the exact probability, but simply an estimate, because you are now counting all pieces. I don't think we can treat the colors as completely independent, which is an assumption I made for this calculation, if you look at all pieces on the cube.

So again if you have a 10% chance to get a good cross on one color, with color neutrality you have approximately a 47% chance to get one on any color.

Dene... the cross really doesn't make the solve. Having a 3 move vs 6 move cross barely affects more than a sec. It's all about the rest of the solve that makes it fast.

Yea, perhaps for you, and all the other good cubers :P .

For me, the cross is a big weakness, if I cannot find one easy enough... I find, if it isn't a very straight forward cross (not too much moving around and shifting and such, if that makes any sense), then I have to watch what's happening (I just can't take the risk of screwing it up), and thus I can't lookahead to my first pair. I strongly rely on my colour neutrality to find a sub-6 move cross every time so I can look for pairs.
I think that a strong majority of the time I can find a reasonable cross, not necessarily a 3 move cross, but at least something that I can execute without watching. Of course, being colour neutral also helps with chances of finding an x-cross :) .
