SS Competition Results
Hi Everyone,

I just got off the phone and have secured the venue for the US
National Rubik's Cube Championships. The event will take place in
Atlanta, GA and will be part of the Atlanta Gaming Festival.

http://www.atlantagamingfestival.com/

The dates will be July 19 - 20. More details to come soon, but a few
quick notes:

Event will be held outside, but under an event tent. The conditions
weather in Georgia at that time is very nice and I am expecting a very
pleasant outdoor experience without interference from wind or the
overbearing sun.

Two-day event passes cost $35. Upon pre-registration for the
competition, you will be registered for a discounted or free event
pass. This is still being negotiated, but competitors will not be
paying the full badge pass.

Thank you everyone. I look forward to making this a successful
championships, and look forward to see Leyan Lo defend his title from
2006. There is a lot of work to do on my end, so more information
will be put up as it becomes available.

Yay! :D I'm probably going to go.

I think for 2x2 it's going to be Mitchell, Phil, and me in some permutation in the top 3 (I'll probably be 3rd). :P For the other events it's not as certain (but it'll probably be like Frank, Michael, Dan for 5x5 in that order if they all come)

hey... I'm beating michael. And don't forget jon, he's right there also. Also, if by some magic grace, OCs come out... I maybe even will be able to beat Frank!!! (not really, but I can hope).

Either way, Nice to see it on the East Coast. That's a big plus. Now I just have to get down to GA for that weekend. Should be a really nice weekend.

yay!!!!
yay!!!
yay!!!
I am so excited to see a competition in the SE! I will actually be able to drive there in a reasonable amount of time since its only one state up. Now all I have to do is get faster than Ryan Patracio by July.

Outside, in Atlanta, in July? Ugh. I hate hot weather. (Average high in Atlanta in July is 89.4 degrees F.) And Eastsheens get looser when they're warm and lock up more.

Still, I'll think about it.

I'm guessing the weather is going to be like that of WC05 in Disney World. I personally wasn't there, but Florida in July is also pretty hot. Being under tent shouldn't be too bad, but the humidity might be annoying. Also, I do like natural lighting for solving, but it's probably not going to happen with the tent.

Florida is a few degrees hotter than Atlanta, but Atlanta usually has pretty high humidity, yes.

Maybe I should just plan on going to Chattahoochee instead. I seriously doubt we would be able to justify going to two tournaments in Georgia in the same year.

Atlanta! So far away! I wished I still lived in Orlando, or the other places in FL that I lived for the matter.

Maybe I will be able to go though. I have a condo down in Orlando and my dad is really nice about cubing. It is over a 6 and a half hour drive though. My dad also has a really good friend in ATL. he will probably get a hotel if he even says we can go. UGH!

Also, can somebody explain to me this part:

It's pretty clear that the $35 pass gets you into the whole gaming festival, not just the Rubik's Cube competition. It looks like it could be a quite cool event overall, except for the fact that most cubers would probably be too busy cubing to be able to take most of the rest of it in. So I'm guessing Tyson is negotiating competitors a discount of some sort for the pass.

Lucky for me I am quite used to the Florida heat so with a tent I will be quite content. I am very excited about finding out 2 competitions will be held in ATL! it will be 5 hours to Chattahoochee and 7 (college/home) to Nationals but thats much closer than anything else.

Thank you Mike. I would rather just have a pass to the Cube Competition, and wouldn't have time to do anything else, like you said.

Ugh, stupid summer school in July (it's a course that all the kids in Pre-IB have to take in the summer because they can't squeeze it in the normal school year)

Plus it's like 15 hours drive, unless I take the airplane, which I probably can't afford it (unless someone pays it for me lol)
