the E permutation.

i've been trying to perfect my permutations, add better finger tricks, speed them up, and basically just polish them. i've been learning new ones too, and when i'm satisfied, i'm gonna stick to the ones i know, and hopefully, never change.

so i stumbled on the E permutation. i don't like it, at all. i've been using this alg : y x R U' R' D R U R' u2 R' U R D R' U' R. i perforum it as y x (R U' R' D R U R') (u2) (R' U R D R' U' R). as you guys can see, it's split up into 3 finger tricks, but one is just a waste, which is u2 alone. after i complete the 1st set, i have to regrip, do u2 with my right hand, regrip again, and finish off the alg. i want to be able to perform this permutation without stopping.

what i thought about it do do the u2 with my lefthand, but since i'm not lefthanded, it's terrible. i've tried a few times, and it doesn't work at all. another option is to perform the mirror of the alg, so i can do u2 with my right hand, and there would be no pauses.

any suggestions?

i also have questions about other PLLs, but i don't think i should ask, mainly because i'd be asking too much and it'd seem weird.

ken : if i did it that way, i would have to hit the U after it with my ring finger. the rest would flow nicely, but i'm not sure.. about continueing like that..

Wow - that's very nice. I hate my E perm algorithms. The only problem with this one is that it's 15 moves instead of 14, so I have to make sure I remember my old one for fewest moves. (I hate having to remember 2 totally different T perms.)
Please don't use a 14 or 15 moves algorithm for Fewest Moves. It will be better to break it up into a corner-cycle and an edge-cycle and use insertions. Look at my solution from 2008-04 which was 20 moves for F2L+OLL, but 28 after some of my insertions and 25/24 for experts like Per/Guus.

That requires that I be able to figure out the insertions in the required time limit, which I have discovered I often cannot manage to do. However, I will take your advice here, and after writing down my 14-move algorithm, I will work as hard as I can to try to beat it with insertions. (In the past, I would usually just try to find a place earlier in the solve that would leave me with a better PLL - or no PLL at all - and I'd often fail, so I was stuck with my 14-move algorithm.)

Hey, I know I'm terrible at fewest moves, but at least I'm genuinely improving!

Oh, and the 11-move T-perm really isn't all that horrible. (Well, unless you're really shooting for sub-30, which I guess I don't have enough confidence to be doing yet.) (Oh, and when I went to the US Open, the 11-move, really hard to execute T-perm was the only one I knew. Pretty sad, huh?)

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS, along with R perms when OH cubing, takes me like 7+ seconds.

After doing PLL time attacks a lot yesterday (averaging sub70 woo!!) I tried timing a few of my PLLs. So, it turns out I can do the E perm sub3. Wow, I never saw that one coming. I use: x U R' U' L U R U' L' U R U' L U R' U' L'

Yet again, I have no idea how I manage it sub3...

I hate E Perms... my worst by far takes me like 6 seconds whereas i can do U T Z H J A all sub 2.5... I've tried like 6 algs but i hate them all..

You can probably do Niklas pretty fast: R' U L U' R U L' U'

Here is a pretty similair alg : (x') R U L' U' R' U L U' (a wery nice COLL) that is as easy to do as Niklas.

Inverse is : (x') U L' U' R U L U' R'

So, if you do the last wersion at first and then cube orient z2 and after that you do the mirror of the first : L' U' R U L U' R' U you will solve the PLL.

The whole alg: (x') U L' U' R U L U' R' (z2) L' U' R U L U' R' U

After this you may understand it better and therfore be able to do it faster but...

It is possible to modify it a little so you do not have to do that z2, just do the last part as from the backside instead, this will also merge two turns to a double layer l2 creating a pretty well knowend alg for E PLL.

(x) U L' U' R U L U' l2 U' L U R U' L' U

And me? yep! I'm using a D2 commutator for the case :

R' U L' D2 L U' R L' U R' D2 R U' L

(x) U R' U' L U R U' r2 U' R U L U' R' U is the same as Kenneth's second to last algorithm.
I have been having some trouble with the E-perm so I am going to use this I think.
Thanks Kenneth!

I use Erik Akkersdijk's:

x' (R U' R' D) (R U R' D') (R U R' D) (R U' R' D')

I watched Erik's PLL video last night and I thought that E perm looked really good, I've not had chance to try and practice it yet but I might switch. It's more fingertrick friendly that the one I use and there is no u2 move. I hate the E perm.

Erik's L-Perm (other J) is cool as well.

I do NOT miss doing that u2. I always hated it.

I'm practicing Erik's at work now and wondering "why have I not been doing this before?" it's so much easier.
