what did YOU do when approaching sub 30?

A while ago my friend created some plan for all the fridrich algs...it just divided all the algs so that within 30 days (i think it was) one could memorize all the algs. However I don't like it. If anyone wants it though I can email it. I got sub 30 in one night actually. It was really odd. The night before the Upenn competition, I averaged around 30 seconds. At the competition, I got a 25 second average and a 21 second single lol. All in all, it just takes time. I was using: intuitive F2L, 2 look OLL, and 2 look PLL. For the 21 though I found an easy x-cross.

im pretty sure I AM PRETTY sure it is impossible to get sub 20 average with 4LL, thats asking for too much the best that could happen is that you get sub 30 average. (My PB is from 4ll, no PLL skip, im not sure how it happened)

So then you would also claim beginners method with 4LLL is even more so impossible? Erik Akkersdijk solving 19 second average with beginners + 4LLL

powershotman, are you trying to say that it's very possible to have sub-20 with 3LLL? i know thats possible, but...uhhh....dang, you're right. im just trying to avoid PLL's :)
It's possible to average sub 20 with Layer By Layer and 4LLL (above post ^^)

For Fridrich F2L, it's possible to sub 15 with 3LLL. Here's a video with an average of 14 seconds (average of 5), using mostly 2 Look OLL (3rd solve already had edges oriented, and 4th solve... well that OLL case is like the easiest and you already know the algorithm, F R U R' U' F')

Well anyway, along with many other people here, I would recommend learning all of the PLL algorithms. After that, just keep on practicing execution and recognition, and you should be able to get your last layer ALWAYS under 10 seconds.

For F2L, you should start practicing looking ahead, if you don't already know what it is. Tutorial on looking ahead:

And if you can, post a video of some of your solves so we can give you additional tips on how to get better. And please get a good camera angle too so we can actually see what you're doing :p

i watched your video rubik's cube fan :) nice tutorial. and ummm yeah, im gonna make myself do a half hour of metronome training and learn 2-3 algs a day. how does the plan sound to you?

lolno

How does it sound for you? Is it a little fast for you, a little slow. Too hard?
You shouldn't let others decide your pace IMO.

Thanks :D And I guess that sounds good. If you are able to do that much, then go for it. But make sure you don't forget the algorithms you learn. ;)

Also for the looking ahead, you should know that when you do those practice techniques, it's meant to improve your F2L technique. It's not directly used for improving your times. You use those practice methods to first get your technique good, and once you get good at turning slow and looking ahead, then you will start to get good times. Just clearing this up, because a lot of people have come to me and said, "oh I did this and this and my times didn't get good!" (after like 1 day). It takes a long time to get good at turning slow and looking ahead. This is something pretty important that I forgot to say in the video :fp

OK, This Is What I Did:
-Started Hunting For A Good Cube. (Still Not Done... :fp)
-Practice F2L ALOT. AND I MEAN ALOT.
-Learn 2LOOL and 2LPLL
-Practice. Get to Sub-20 Average.
------------------------------------- (This is where I stop, I'm still working my way down the rest of the list.)
-Shoot for 1LPLL.
-Practice.
-POSSIBLY (not necessary) shoot for 1LOLL, but that will take a while.
-Go be awesome. :D

When I got sub-30, I was using intuitive F2L and 3LLL.

And I probably learned full PLL with a 45 second average... I was very impatient... and I learned them in the course of like 4 days. But then again I was on a car trip and I was so bored and had nothing better to do.
