what did YOU do when approaching sub 30?

could you perhaps list the most useful PLL's for you? i've already got A's the T and Y.

on a side note, i use Y perm instead of E perm when using 2 Look PLL. is Y perm worse or better?

Well, the Y perm I use (personally) is better than the E-perm I use. I can't really say for you, just figure out which is better/faster for you.

As for PLLs to learn, I recommend Ra, Rb, Na, and H.
The Rs solve all cases with either a complete side or headlights, by solve I mean bring to a 3-edge cycle, and the Ns solve the rest. H is good for some cases, as in bringing them to easier ones to solve first. I'd rather not list the cases they each help with, so you'll just have to experiment with that.

I'd also recommend learning the Z perm and the Nb perm (after you've learned the ones above). Hope this helps! :D

Also, don't cram algs, try just one (or sometimes 2) a day.

I did a PLL or 2 a day.
Multiples done in 1 day.
-J's
-R's
-T/Y
-Corner Cycles
-Edge Cycles
-G1, G3 (i think thats it)
-G2, G4 (i think thats it

and the rest are all 1 a day.

Y perm and E perm have about the same amount of moves, but I feel that Y is definitely the easier to perform of the two. BUT, doing Y in place of E, puts you left with a U perm to finish, so you're faced with two algs instead of one. Just practice and go with whatever works for you. 21 PLLS ain't so bad to learn with a little dedication, just do them all, that's my recommendation.

Badmephisto lists PLLs in order of thier occurence, that's the order I suggest learning them.

When I was still using 4LLL I occasionally got a sub20, but that was probably because I already had all the top edges oriented for me. So in that case, it was 3LLL. I use 3LLL right now and I average ~15.

I didn't start learning full PLL until I was sub 25, and I still didn't know 2 of my G perms (what I mean by that is, I knew them, but they weren't in my muscle memory, so they weren't really natural to execute during a solve) a few weeks ago at Carnegie Mellon.

I use all of the algorithms on badmephisto.com for PLL. They all are very fingertrick-friendly for me. :)

well u can get sub 30 now if u wanted. Just improve your cross until u can do it in 3-5 seconds. Your last layer seems to be slowing you down a lot. Therefore learn full pll it's extremely easy.

To summarize:
1. Work on cross until you can execute in 3-5 seconds
2. Learn full PLL...this should take u to around 25-30 second range
3. Work on f2l (ortion that takes u 10-15 seconds) A LOT and keep practicing your 2 look oll and full pll and you should be able to get sub 20

im pretty sure I AM PRETTY sure it is impossible to get sub 20 average with 4LL, thats asking for too much the best that could happen is that you get sub 30 average. (My PB is from 4ll, no PLL skip, im not sure how it happened)

I just broke the 30s barrier a few days ago, consistently averaging ~29 seconds now (Ao100's).
I basically just practiced a lot, especially F2L lookahead. Using a metronome worked magically for me!

By the time I was sub-30, I was mostly doing 1 look PLL, 2-look OLL (maybe about 50% OLLs memorized). By now, I do have all the algorithms memorized (although I’m always looking for more efficient ones), but your average won’t drop into sub20s with 2-look Last Layer alone. Since the bulk of the solve time is taken up by the F2L (and the cross, to a certain extent), an improved F2L (smoother execution, better look-ahead, less stopping to think) will bring down your average the most.
