Hey guys, i'm looking for some advice,
I CAN solve the 5x5x5 but it takes about 5 minutes, which is too long, i pair the edges very slowly and was wondering if anyone could help me learn how to pair them faster which will reduce my times a bunch, its the only thing on the 5x5x5 i suck at, any replies will be appreciated, i have checked ArnaudVG's vids on youtube, which i think is what i do at the moment, but im looking to get faster :] Thanks (sorry arnaud if i spelt your name wrong) Thanks alot guys. Peace.

if you are doing AVG edges at the moment, why switch??????
It's probably one of the (if not the) best pair up method known at the moment. I use it and I'm a bit fast with it too. Practise a lot of course, it's very possible to get your times sub-3 with kinda any edge method I think.
Good luck!

It sounds like you should go through Arnaud's tutorial more carefully.

I used a method that was very close to Arnaud's method for a while, then switched to the bigcubes.com method for a while. Then Arnaud taught me his advanced method fully, and I realized what a big difference between his advanced method and my less-advanced one. If you will take the time to really learn his method, you'll find that it will help you a great deal.

I'm still pretty weak at 5x5x5, but I'm happy to say I finally broke 3 minutes for the first time last week (single solve), and considering my best 3x3x3 average of 10 is over 31 seconds, I'd say that's not bad. I'd guess that if you were as good at Arnaud's method as I am (considering how fast you are on the 3x3x3), you'd probably be able to solve a 5x5x5 in 2:30 or less. And I'm still not very good at it.

In case you haven't noticed, Erik (who said he's "a bit fast" with the method) has the world record average of 5 on the 5x5x5 at 1:36.71, more than 5 seconds faster than the second best. So clearly Arnaud's method is the most successful one used so far in competition.

I would stick with the AVG method if you already started it. Both Erik and Matyas use variations of it (basically restoring centers). I use a hybrid between the two, AVG and bigcubes. My best single with AVG is only 2:07 though.

Experiment with various edge pairing methods and pick one that you like best. You shouldn't stick to one fixed method, imo... it would be like solving a 3x3x3 only with CFOP every time (how boring!).

Geez, Erik, that's impressive. Thanks for posting it - that was just awesome to watch. Wow - I think I'll go back and watch it again. :)
