5x5x5 how can i get faster?

I have been cubing for about a year now, and now i have gotten into the bigger cubes, 5x5 and so on. however, i can not get it under 5 minutes no matter what i do.

I solve the white square then yellow (opposite sides) then i go around the middle and solve those. then i solve 8 tredges and put them on the top or bottom. solve the last 4 tredges and then c-f2l, 2 look oll and pll.

any help would be great!

im pretty sure he was too

I think he wasn't, my search function literaly isn't there. All the other options are spread out so there are no major gaps, and I didn't even notice it until I went to use it.
