Methods used at WC 1981:

"I asked all the contestants what algorithm they used. Borsos' algorithm was unclear to me. Brinkmann and Chilvers had two possible algorithms. The following descriptions assume doing the D face first, but this doesn't mean they hold it that way. I write DC for D corners, ME for middle edges, etc. The most popular method was to do DC, UC, U & D E, ME (C2-3). This was used by Brinkmann, Chacón, Chilvers, Jean-Charles, Labas, Sandqvist, Thai, Trinh, van Laethem. Ueno did DC, UC, ME, 3UE, rest. The second most popular technique was Pierre Jullien's method of leaving a DC and the ME above it undone as working or parking spaces. Galrinho, Romeo and Tenev used this method. Brinkmann used a method DC, 3DE, 4UC, rest. Variants of the D, M, U layer method were used by Fridrich, Serbenski and Trajber. Chilvers did DC, DE, U, M. Razoux Schultz did DE, DC & ME together, U (see N32). Petrus does a 2 × 2 × 3 block then orients edges, then orients corners, then completes D & M and then U."

From that we can understand Jessica did beginners LBL for first layers (D layer, M layer, U layer) and Guus did Cross + F2L (DE=cross, DC&ME=F2L).

I know the part abut Guus is correct (he invented it by himself I know) but how about Jessica?

He uses the "Dockhorn-Treep method" for F2L, which is in fact Cross+CE Pairs.

At least I think it's spelt like that.

I love how working corners are referred to as "parking spaces".

Yes, I did cross+F2L WC1982 but I got the idea from the Dockhorn-Treep method published by Frans Schiereck. But all algs found by myself, they were easy to find. My LL method was different from the DT-method. What I didn't realize/remember that Fridrich did not use that same F2L system already at WC1982 but appearantly she started to use this method after WC1982 (and got the idea from me probably?) But I'm very sure she already used the same as the Dockhorn-Treep method for LL: OLL + PLL. During the WC1982 afterparty we cubed together in the hotel lounge for about 4 or 5 hours and exchanged algs, till 3 o' clock in the morning.....

Singmaster did not use "parking spaces" as a synonym for working corners but for working edges. Remember almost al those WC1982 cubers used a corner-first method...

Exatly what I thought when I saw this, "did she got the idéa from Guus?" Then why does she gets all the credits and you non of it? Newer heard about the Dockhorn-Treep method method before but if that is Cross, F2L, OLL and PLL? Why is it called the Fridrich method then? My guess is: Dockhorn-Treep method = 4LLL and Fridrich 2LLL.

Is that correct?

Kenneth,

You are not correct for the LL part: At WC1982 Fridrich already did a 2LLL (OLL + PLL) she must have figured this out independant from the Dockhorn-Treep mehod, which is the same 2LLL (OLL + PLL). I used a different LL method : CLL - ELL (and I still do)

But for F2L this is different: I can't remember what method she used for F2L exactly at WC1982. I'm sure we did not exchange F2L-algs but she may have used the idea and found the algs herself. Or she already knew the system but did not used it for speedcubing already. Or Singmasters is false and Fridrich already did cross+CEpairs. A few months after WC1982 I got a letter from her asking for a (only one!) LL process which I demonstared her during this afterparty. We should give her the credits for the Fridrich method because she was the first who published it on the internet.

Absolutly, I just wondered why you newer get any creds at all, your method is really great.

BTW: I'm also using cross, F2L, CLL and ELL and know all cases wery well. But for speed I mostly switch to VH, COLL EPLL because recognition for COLL is a bit faster than for CLL (unoriented eges confuses me a little) and EPLL is much faster then ELL when it comes to recognition. It is a few turns more than CLL/ELL but because of recognition it is a little faster for me.

Pedro,

The F2L-thing was not my idea I just found some algs myself, I only invented the CLL-ELL myself but I do not see it as something big.

We should meet sometimes, anly a few in the world use CLL+ELL. But what is VH, COLL, EPLL ? Still 2LLL? Are you doin' corners & orientation together?

Yes, It would be nice to shear some experiences, we must work something out, (I think there are some more ppl here who knows your method, I actully think Erik is planning to learn, he asked some questions about number of skips some days ago).

VH = Vandenbergh - Harris = edge control = orient LL edges while placing the last CE pair.

COLL = CLL but does not change LL edges orientation (longer algs for some cases).

EPLL = the cases of ELL where all edges are oriented already = edge PLL.

I think this was to Kenneth :)
