New here, but not at cubing, i have 1 rubix and the only method i know is the dan brown method on youtube. My fastest is 2.15 :P I am aiming to learn either the fridrich or the block one, suggestions anyone? also im using the 25th anniversary rubix and might purchase some jig-a-loo to make it smoother, but it doesnt look like it opens, anyone confirm it does?

Of course waffle may coax you into Roux, but there is Petrus, MGLS, ZB, ZZ. Just Google them all with "method" after them, and figure out if you like algorithms (Fridrich, the most common, the most help videos, and my method), or intuitive/block building/fewer moves (the aforementioned Roux). If you can dabble in them all, then you WILL be a good cuber. Also, visit the Speedsolving Wiki, and welcome to Speedsolving.com

Personally, i think its best to incorperate algs and techniques from all methods.
see a good petrus solve, but suck at petrus, make the 2x2x3, and solve the rest for fridrich
see a 1x1x3 but suck at roux, turn it into 2x2x3 with petrus techniqes and solve for fridrich. etc.

uhh im still confused on the types of solving

there are two MAIN ones

layered (layer by layer)
and
block(start at corner and advance to whole cube)

and the main and most famous method for each one is
layered-the dan brown one (then fridrich method is algorithm to make the process faster?)
blocking-petrus

am i correct?

also thanks you guys for quick reply, and does anyone have links to remove the cube.

Thanks, also i have another question. what are all the terms like OH and stuff?

there more than just 2 MAIN methods...
:D
block building is also for Roux not just petrus...

Remove the cube?

Anyway,

There are the 3 most used methods are:

Beginner: Layer By Layer (LBL for short)

Most commonly used speed method is Fridrich (CFOP) First make a cross, then insert F2L pairs, then OLL and finally PLL.

Petrus first make a 2x2x2 block, then expand to 2x2x3, then solve bad edges, then fill in the rest of F2L then corner permutation, then OLL and finally edge permutation.

I suggest you try inituitive Fridrich to start.

Thanks, also i have another question. what are all the terms like OH and stuff?

OH=One handed solving BLD=Blindfolded solving FMC=Fewest Moves

OH is One-Handed
BLD is blind
Multi / Mbld is Multiple Blind
FMC is Fewest Moves
there are a lot but you will catch on fast. I think there is already a thread about "cubing slang" or something.

OMG thank you guys so much, very helpful
so i think im going to start the fridrich method, it basically are a lot of algorithm used to help though different situations? because i heard there are like +50

also F2L means first two layers right? whats OLL and PLL and corner permutation.

Thanks again!

P.S. have any good websites you recommend to learn fridrich?

the most algs you HAVE to learn to be considered using FULL fridrich is 78. these are easily learnt if you learn 1 a day.

I would suggest Badmephisto's
site
for learning intuitive fridrich. Orientation of the Last Layer(OLL) is making all of one color face up. Permutation of the last layer(PLL) is putting the last layer peices in the right spots.

For the last layer (LL for short) I would suggest you learn 2look OLL/PLL.

hm... well i have the cross and the f2l down but not the "offical way"

so im trying the OLL first, im not sure but does R U R' U' switch everything in the LL so that u only have to learn 17 ? whats the first trigger, second trigger, third trigger. sorry its very late here and im kind of tired, wanna start memborizing tomorrow morning but dont know what best to memborize first

going just a little too fast there, slow down, you need to practice, and learn the moves, and get better at f2l before you "memborize" all those algs. (57 olls if im not mistaken)

yes 57OLL 21 PLL
or you can use Roux and do 42 CMLL.

thanks ur right, i looked at the cross method and it was wayyyy different that what i learned, i think i should start there.

ohh this is like the last two steps in 15 algorithm instead of 50?

Yep, and fast too.
