Hi guys i've been cubing for about 2 weeks now..
I finished 2 Look Oll and 2 Look Pll , and at 12/21 PLL at the moment
People told me to learn the PLL later, but i am an impatient, and a greedy learner =( ...
I also learned the F2L few days ago, but it takes a long time =(
My Average time right now is around 1:05~1:10.. My lucky solves are around
high 50's//
I think I take too much time on the first 2 layers..
When i use the layer by layer method, i get ( in Average)
8~12 sec for cross, 1st layer done by 20~24 sec, 2nd layer done by 40~50 sec, then comes the 4 look Last layer finishes me to about 1:05.
Cross solved at the bottom.
I Try to use F2L if i see them already matched, but in general, no...

(my left hand is really weak compared to my right.. my R Ui R Ui is like 2~3 times faster than L U L U .. my index fingers are on the back top corners and my thumb on front sides. I never used ring and pinky fingers before)

*Edit : I have a store bought rubix cube (rubiks.com) and spayed with Jig-a-loo.
Im got a Old Type a I, and a New Type A III waiting for shipping to arrive..
any problems with the cube you think..?

If you have any tips, it would be greatly appreciated :D

1. Practice your cross
Make sure you really know how to do it before you even start turning.
if it takes you 5 minutes to remember the max of 8 moves, then take these 5 minutes.
2. Never ever turn your cube faster than you can look ahead.
If this means you do only 1 turn every two seconds throughout your solve at first, it is ok, you will get faster.
before your solve, decide about your pace for cross and F2L, then stick to it. If you cannot keep up within your solve: stop, scramble and start again.
Maybe try out a metronome for this, it's helpful to some.
3. Go slow while looking ahead.
Always know what your next move will be.
4. Look into intuitive F2L
There are only 3 basic cases. It can be hard to get it at first, but if you do get it, it's awesome and you'll make up your own 'F2L algs', which you'll never forget.
There are loads of vids for this on youtube. Search for badmephisto and frk17.
Every F2L pair can be solved with a max of 8 moves.
5. Have fun.
Getting faster takes time. Don't stop enjoying what you're doing.
Even if each steps on its own is faster, it can take some time and practice until everything comes together and your times end up being faster than before.
Barriers are just in your head, not in your fingers.
6. Don't just cube for practice, think about an aspect you want to improve.

Hope this helps.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Well, I think the fact that you're using a storebought slows you down a bit.
And also, it happens to everyone, when you first learn F2L it's really slow, when I first learnt it took me up to 2 mins just for F2L.

Best thing you can do to improve at the moment - PRACTICE. :)

i am in the same situation u are. My left hand is weaker/slower in turning than my right hand. I have yet to improve on that. Although i have improved my cross, f2l, 2 look oll, 2 look pll and currently average 45 seconds but it took me about 1-2 months with limited practice to get there from 1 min 15 second beginner method average. Practice everything but i suggest you do a break down of how long it takes u to do cross, f2l, oll, pll and there u can see where ur slow on. Your cross could be done in 2-3 seconds

My Left hand is better than my right... :S I am right handed. I dont know why. But it just takes practice. Need to learn F2L.

thank you guys for the great tips :D
i should practice cross (without looking) and F2L more

btw.. i just realized each few seconds i cut off from my average, it gets even harder to cut down the next few seconds >_>

I feel the same to you but the only thing I can do is practice my F2L and the cross is what further ado, I have learned almost all the PLL because it was hard to combine

I was where you were abotu 5 weeks ago and I cut serious time off with practice and paying attention to the cross and F2Ls. I still only knwo the 2 looks. if you learn all the PLLs and practice a lot you should break 30 secconds in about a month.

Also be proud of yourself. 1 minute in only two weeks is really impressive. don't get down on yourself. if you need a little encouragement just cube a little in public and people will tell you how amazing you are. cause you're still faster than 99% of everyone that has attempted the cube.

i just got avg of 20 solves with the time of 1:06 which made myself amazed ( cross, F2L + 2 oll / 2 pll ).
I still need to practice slow and look ahead, which i think im losing about 10? seconds during F2L. But Im very happy to see a huge improvement in 3 days :)

However,, the only problem is that I feel like a nerd.. cubing 24/7.. when I start to practice at like 7pm, the next thing is that when i see the clock, it's like 3am... lol too addicted..
What about you guys? how addicted are you? (or were you in the past) :p

I think anyone who reads these forums are addicted very very much. :D
don't feel like a nerd. Because cubers are cubers. Cubers aren't nerds :D

I think you're rushing way too much. You've almost covered in two weeks what I've covered in six months. Just give it time and work on your CF part of the method.

In other words, practice.

Each cuber has their own style. May this one likes to improve like crazy. And you liked a gradual approach. :D

I don't know... after watching people in youtube, i wanted to become one of them.. that was like the end of september >_> just realized i had to practice Alot to become one..... ( not related to topic, but yay just got a best solve 45.60 ! non lucky; so happy :))

* btw, waffle, your video of 10 cube solves in a row... its godly T_T
after watching it, i have nothing to say... lol

Starting out, what does everyone recommend for inspection time? I've been doing 10 seconds and I think starting out it is not long enough for me since I am a beginner. I tried 15 seconds and immediately did my fastest solve (1:02). Is 15 seconds a good look-ahead time or should I give myself more or less time? thoughts?
