Using My Left Hand

I am right handed at most everything I do.

Throwing balls, writing, and almost everything else. However, whenever I OH solve a Rubik's Cube, I like using my left hand alot more.

Is this odd?

I am outlandishly right-handed. I can't seem to help it - I find everything MUCH easier with the right hand. Except for one thing - OH cubing. When I first started trying it, I was about a minute faster with my left hand than with my right. So I still use the left hand when OH cubing.

I suspect it's because of what Pedro says - my 2-handed algorithms favor the right hand when done with two hands, and therefore are easier to do one-handed with the left hand than with the right.

I'm also right-handed, do OH with my left hand.
Same reason, UR in algs (MGLS places LS at FR, so this contributes to it).
My friend once came up with another good reason, though: The left hand does all the fingering in violin, and so maybe maybe I was more inclined to transfer the dexterity.

There's also the fact that OH with the left hand means I can cube while taking notes. But that's incidental. :)
I don't take many notes, anyhow... ;)

I also jump off my left foot for long jump and hurdles...

I don't know how so many people can cube so fast with their non dominant hand, I take over twice as long with it, and I did not find it was too hard to mirror all my algorithms. I am right handed, but if I try to do it with my left hand, I actually find that I keep trying to insert things on the left side, which defeats the point of switching!

I am very right hand dominant in everything except OH cubing. With my left hand I can average around 25 seconds, but with my right hand I struggle to get under a minute. I think one of the reasons this is so common among cubers is the fact that for most of us, we do most of our fingertricks with our right hand when we do regurlar solving. This means that we are using the left hand primarily to grip the cube and the right hand to do the fingertricks. Because of this, the cube naturally feels more stable in the left hand than it does the right hand. That's my theory, anyway.

I'm right handed and use my right hand for OH cubing. My right hand is used for most of the fingertricks I do in 2H speedsolving, and it's my dominant hand, so it seems like the logical choice for me...

Usually you find that your dominant hand is the "power" hand while your other hand is better at “control”. The violin, the guitar, shooting a gun, bow & arrow, grabbing a guy by the neck and punching him in the face and almost everything that requires two hands, your dominant hands will take the role that requires "strength or power" while the other hand takes the role of assisting or controlling. For cubing, power isn’t required but rather intricate, careful, smooth and controlled moves. That's my n00b theory anyway...

okay, here is what i discovered.

when cubing with two hands, most of ur algorithms involves R, and i find R kinda hard to do with right hand as compared to left hand (right index, left ring), that's all the difference i can see.

i avg around 35 OH with my left, and when i try with my right hand(with no practice), i average around a little over a minute(1:09), with a best solve of 55. i don't really think it makes a difference, it's all practice.

nope

I do that too and many people do that...

I guess the main reason I do that is that I use a lot of R moves on my algs...and doing R with the right hand is not good :D

yep, that's what I said :D

I wished Chris Dzoan answer this topic, cause i'm right handed for OH too... and i'm thinking about change to left, because the fact of the R U algorithms i use, looks more confortable changing than mirroring all my algorithms...
i wonder about what the Dzoan's did about this, if they mirror, or they have some crazy algorithms (as Pedro said me he saw at Worlds) for everything

I'm left-handed but I write with my right hand o_o

I think I feel a little more comfortable using my left hand. But it gets tired after solving so I switch hands.

I'm right handed and I've just started OH, and as I've been testing out both hands, I've found that the right hand is easier for me, despite what most people think. I execute the algorithms to the side now, using a z' rotation so that I can do the R moves as U and the U as L moves. It seems to work for now, but I'll have to see how it goes in the future.

Edit: I just watched one of Dan's solves and it seems like he's doing that for the R/U algorithms, so I guess my natural thought agreed them them. XD It would still be good to see if they respond though.

It basically boils down to preference. I use my Left hand for OH, because I'm more comfortable with using my index for Us and my ring for Rs. Also, from playing bass, my left hand is way more dextrous and I think able maneuver better. I would just try both hands and see which one you like more.
