About 6 months ago the idea popped into my head to try and make a magnetic rubik's cube, and after searching around on the internet (mainly instructables.com), about 20 hours in the garage, and a few more in my room stickering and gluing, I ended up with this.

Below is a link to my Mobile Me gallery with pics from through out the project.

Id like to sell it for multiple reasons. One being that it wouldnt hurt me to have a few extra dollars, and the second being that I think the cube deserves a good home, as I rarely touch it anymore. I spent around $60 to complete it, so I was thinking Id start the price there, and any offer high is fine by me. Ha.

Keep in mind that it IS fully functional, can be solved just like a regular cube, and can be fully disassembled, but it is by no means a speed cube. If you use to much force on any one particular cubie, you can pop it off, after all, its held together with magnets.

Any takers? :)

Still, it's really cool. Not 60 dollars cool (for me anyway) but.. pretty darn close to awesome.

The reason why the Ive posted another thread is because the last one was hijacked by a few individuals, turning it into an argument about the ethics of ebay, being extremely rude and condescending.

And the reason Ive stated $60 now, and $80 back then is honestly because I didnt remember the exact cost to building it, and if you read my post, youll notice I said around $60.

Its not that big a deal if I dont sell it, I just figured I might as well give it a shot again. If youre not interested, dont post, as Ive come to see there are quite a few rude individuals on this forum.

Cool lookin' forward to the vid. Is there a chance you'll be willing to take less than what you invested - if it doesn't sell - at some point?

so why should i buy it, when i can make my own out of materials i already have?

you have to think about these things

I don't imagine most people already have the cubies (dice?), the magnets, and the drill press to do it. Which, is my case.

Seriously though man, if you don't want it, don't worry about it..

Exactly. Im very happy that at least someone on this forum is courteous and pleasant. As Phases states, Im pretty sure the vast majority of people do not have dozens of magnets lying around, along with 27 clear acrylic cubes.

Phases:
I wouldnt want to go too low, maybe around $40-$50, but would be willing negotiate. Maybe some trades or something.

*I* am interested, therefore I am posting. A few questions:

$60 is a bit high for me, but I am interested. Could we negotiate a trade and the price. If so, what puzzles are you after? Can you ship to UK?

Goodness me, why is everybody being so hostile!? Don't ask the guy why you should buy it, he's not forcing you to, if you aren't interested, don't post!

Thank you! Its great knowing its not just me noticing this.

I was able to post a video, and here it is:

And as for trades, I honestly have no idea what I would want. Feel free to just throw out suggestions/offers, as the trade idea is beginning to seem much more pleasant.

Thanks!

That looks like a nice cube! Clearly not meant for regular solving. I wonder, would it turn better if the edges were just magnetized to center pieces, and not corners? ..or fall apart to easy..

...just thinkin' out loud.

Edit: Edited.... I meant edges to corners not other edges. I think. My brain hurts.

Youre quite right, but instead of just magnetizing to the center, I put larger, stronger magnets on the 6 center axis. That way, the larger magnet will hold as the smaller, weaker magnets allow the rest of the face to turn.

The idea of itself is not a new innovation, but the quality of the puzzle looks superb. so if anything, treat it on the basis of its quality and $60 is a good price considering the quality of the puzzle, not just by the materials but by the craftsmanship.

xXriderxx7 very good job on the puzzle.

Now I've seen the video, it does seem like a good puzzle. If I were you though, I would keep it, for years in the future showing your grandchildren, "look, I made a Rubik's cube." They'll say, "I though that was one of those apps, on the iPod Touch, 34th Generation, since when did people actually make them." Don't sell it, keep it.

Thank you very much.
The cube is by no means perfect, but I have always been happy with the way it turned out. It feels really good to know that some people do understand the value of it.

And as to keeping it, I might. When I ordered the parts I actually ordered doubled, because I thought that I would use the first one as somewhat of a rough draft, but it turned out so well that I never saw a need to make a second. If I ended up selling it, I think id just make the other. Still, you make a great point. It is something I could hand down through my family.

This is off topic, but I don't think xXriderxx7 will mind.

I've just been going through all the trolling posts that DavidWoner deleted and I'd like to say that many of you are lucky he got to this thread before I did, or half of you would be banned right now.

qqref said it right when he pointed out that if you don't care about someone's post you don't need to respond. If you don't want to buy xXriderxx's cube or you think it is overpriced or that you can build one yourself or you can find one cheaper elsewhere, then fine, don't buy it. But don't come on his thread and berate him for it.

Three of you were already on my short list to begin with and your comments here didn't help your cases one bit. Play nicely.

I guess that's all I have to say.

P.S.
Nice cube, xXriderxx7. I've seen the posts on building one of these and I know the parts aren't cheap and the process is exacting and time consuming. Good job.

Obviously you haven't seen a bit earlier in the accomplishment thread. Ban those people. Some of these comments are a bit harsh, but we're giving him constructive criticism. I agree people should not post something such as, "Bad puzzle." or, "Overpriced". But they can say, "Not the best puzzle because...."(this is not my opinion)

I'm sure that most of us here including myself, would never be able to build this puzzle.

I finish with once again. Keep it. If I made one of this quality, I would sell it for no less than $150, considering labour, materials, and profit.

Very nicely done. I was considering looking into buying some magnets to put in an eastsheen 2x2x2 or 4x4x4, to reduce lockups by automatically aligning the layers.

You think this might work?

Try 2x2 first, coz it would be a waste of a 4x4, but you can get ES 2x2's in Australia for $7, which converts to about $4.50 US.

It would probably make it much slower to solve. Do the mini diansheng mod for your 2x2.
