How do you insert edges?

To make this easy to ask, grab a cube and do R U R' U'

How would you go about inserting this edge?

Some would go U R U' R' naturally

However I would go R' F R F'

That is how I insert EVERY edge pair.


So this is the way I've been doing this since day one. I have a question in the form of 3 options (like a multiple choice question)

Should I

A: Learn to do it the other way

B: Learn to be opportunistic about it and use whichever one requires fewest moves

C: Keep the R' F R F' because it doesn't really matter or effect time either way?

I don't know, I have been wondering if this is a big deal or not.

For example, if I see that when inserting my last edge pair, if I see that inserting it my usual way will cause there to be no oriented edges, I insert it the other way.

That way I prevent going from 2 look OLL to 3 look OLL.

I always use U R U' R' to insert the edge its much faster and more efficient. Sometimes though the R' F R F' can help you going into the 2 look oll and helps you orient an edge. It all depends on the situation. As for your multiple choice you answered your own question. "If i see that inserting it my usual way (R' F R F') will cause there to be no oriented edges, I insert it the other way (U R U' R')" so obviously the answer would be B. The more you kno the better.

Faster is all a matter of preference and it is the same exact amount of moves. Everything you said after this was fine though.

I find it harder to look ahead from a R' F R F' so I only use it for edge-control on last pairs usually.

I would say that a 2-gen Algorithm is the better option in this case.
R and U is a lot faster than messing around with F and Rs.
But then again, I would try and learn the insertion algorithm from all sides.
