I swear this is my last V6 mod question...

Well if you indeed did the full mod, including taking the little bumps off of the inner mechanism pieces, then they are quite necessary to keep the internal mechanism in alignment, which is what that little bump used to do. At least that's what I'm told, I'm still trying to find the time to mod mine.

Yes, the pins are a complete necessity, without them, 1. The cube will come out of alignment, 2. It will pop more (from my experience) and 3. Just the overall feel of it will be wrong.

To quote Dene.
When you glue the two inner pieces to the core it fixes a center piece. Therefore the slice that the pins are on will always be the same colours. On my V6 it is the slice with red/orange/black/yellow that has the pins (I think I have a blue center fixed).

Do you know which colour is fixed? If so, never start with that colour or its opposite when doing centers, and never pair edges on that slice.

Well that all depends on how well you did the mods. I can do centers/edges/parity on whichever slice I want and never have problems. I would say test it out a bit, and if you are having problems, then avoid doing stuff on that slice.

I think he meant without the pins. In which case, that slice is completely screwed.

That's because I basically owned that cube. All the pins are still in there, and the mod was done like perfectly :p

#2 is completely false, and #3 is completely crap too. The only things the pins accomplish is to get rid of the misalignments.

advice

I just finished the full V6 mod. I re assembled it, but my question is how crucial are the pins? I have heard from someone that they are rather unnecessary. Is it true?

some tips on the pins

use instant krazy glue. it works wonders

the pins

if you just glue 2 pieces to the core it will kep the mechanism in allighnment 2/3 of the time. i dont think you absolutely need them.

you guys do know that the fixed center isn't fixed to a color, right?

Lol, dont try to prove them wrong.
Cubers at that level KNOW what theyre talking about.

When the mod is done, two internals are GLUED to the core, making one of the centers unable to move.

maybe look around the forum a bit more and get to know the people who know what they are talking about first. Nobody is going to risk a v6 without knowing what they are doing in great depth :)

Hooray for lurking!

To OP: Expect a lot of dust when playing with a 6x6 with the pin mod done. My center(as in the ones with the screws) with the pins are almost all black.

I used instant crazy glue and the pins wont stay in no matter what I do. And now the screws are so filled with glue, there's no chance of them staying in.

Then take a fishing knife, or fine tipped hobby cutters (found at your local hobby shop) and pry the glue out.

You could also try getting a glue solvent and removing the dried glue that way.
